"...after everything I've done, everything I've given—my generosity, my lands, my wisdom... is it not enough? No. NO! He did this—this thing to me. I will make him pay!"

Ade shouted at the walls of his study when the candles flicked without warning. But no windows were left open. He couldn't search for the cause; fear had rooted him frozen, just as the only door banged repeatedly—a foreign door, its importance now meaningless as the darkness covered it.

He was sure he was having another nightmare, a continuation of his previous dreams, yet the door now completely hidden in the growing darkness, banged louder.

The noise, the terror, the eerie blackness... it was all too much, and soon, it all consumed him.

Then in the distance, the cock crowed for the arrival of morning.
