A blast of cold air rushed out of the open door, not even waiting for Lynn to open it all the way before hurrying out into the hallway behind me. A chill ran down my spine, soothing the pinkened skin that the Vegas sun has been beating down on for the last three hours.
“I don't think I've ever felt more tired than I do right now,” Jordan announced, kicking her flip flops toward the mound in the corner of the room, which had unofficially become the dirty clothes corner.
It was going to be a nightmare to go through it before we packed our suitcases and flew home, but that was a day away. We had time to keep ignoring it.
“Me neither,” Andrea said. “Think the others will be back anytime soon?”
“Doubtful,” I replied. They were all taking shots with the bartender when we left. They still had more partying in them, I could tell.
“We should try to get some rest before the dance classes tonight. You know Cassidy is gonna work us,” Jordan said, to which everyone else nodded and grunted in agreement.
Cassidy had been meticulous about every detail of this trip, making it into the most jam packed bachelorette weekend possible for her best friend. We'd yet to have a single break from the time we met at the airport up until right here in this moment, and I doubted we'd have a chance like this again.
“Ya, but I can't sleep with pool water drying on my skin. I feel too gross. I'm gonna shower,” I said.
“I’ll go after you,” Lynn said.
Jordan stripped out of her bathing suit and threw a baggy shirt over her head, then crawled onto her bed. “I'm too tired to shower “
“Me too,” Anne said. She changed into shorts and a tank top, then slid under the covers with Jordan.
“I'll try to go fast,” I told Lynn, grabbing a towel from the closet and padding towards the bathroom.
As much as I wanted to linger under the water, I didn't want to make Lynn wait too long. I washed my hair and body as quickly as I could, too tired to keep my eyes open while I did it. It wasn't until I was rubbing the fluffy hotel towels over my skin that I realized that I'd forgotten to grab a change of clothes before entering the bathroom.
The scent of chlorine was thick in the air when I opened the bathroom door, mixing with the fresh scent that emanated from the AC humming against the back wall of the hotel room.
“All yours,” I said.
Lynn was sitting at the desk beside our shared bed, head propped up on her closed fist. Her eyes, which had been half shut, shot open at the sound of my voice.
Maybe I was tired and imagining things, but I could have sworn that she had looked me up and down, her eyes lingering on my way too tiny towel.
But she was just tired, it didn't mean anything, right? She was probably just zoning out in my direction.
And I was tired too, and-
“Thanks,” her voice startled me out of my thoughts.
I averted my eyes, which had darted to the exposed skin of her tan stomach when she stood up. While she made her way to the bathroom, I busied myself with my suitcase, shoving things around in search of clean pajamas.
My heart didn't begin to slow down until I heard the click of the bathroom door behind me.
Don't be weird, I scolded myself in my head.
I'd noticed how beautiful Lynn was the moment we all met at the airport, but as far as I knew, I was the only gay girl in the group. I needed to stifle this desire and go to bed. This weekend was supposed to be about celebrating our friend anyways, not dating.
