Lingling’s pov:
I settled back into my desk chair, surrounded by a veritable mountain of papers and documents. With an effortless grace, my pen glided across the sheets, sealing deals and validating contracts with practiced efficiency. After a few more minutes of relentless signing, I finally leaned back in my seat, feeling a sense of gratification as I looked at the neatly stacked set of completed documents.
Being the CEO of a successful clothing brand was no easy task; the responsibility was immense, and my time was practically non-existent.
I racked my brain, trying to recall the last time I had gone out for a drink or something, and I came up empty. The relentless pace of my work had consumed my life completely.
It was a lonely existence, maintaining this distance from everyone, but it had paid off. After all, there was no real need for personal connections, not when the company was running smoothly and generating impressive results.
My weary thoughts were interrupted by the sound of my office door opening, revealing the stoic figure of my father. Despite relinquishing his position, he still held significant influence in the company.
I raised an eyebrow, surprised by his unannounced visit. "Father, is there something you need?"
My father walked in, a hint of sternness in his gaze. He shot me a look, replying, "Can't I check on how my daughter is handling the business?"
I resisted the urge to roll my eyes. My father had always expected excellence from me, even more so now that I was the CEO.
I suppressed a weary sigh and gestured for my father to take a seat across from me. As he settled into the chair, his gaze remained fixed on me, silently judging.
"Father," I began, "as you can see, the company is doing well. Profits are up, and efficiency is at its peak."
My father nodded slowly, a hint of satisfaction in his eyes. "I'm fully aware of that," he responded, nodding. "I have people here who keep me updated on the company's progress."
I stifled the urge to scoff. Of course, he had his sources, his eyes and ears in the company.
"Why are you here then?" I asked, my tone tinged with slight concern. "You should be resting, like the doctor instructed."
My father shrugged off my words, his usual dismissive manner coming to the fore. "Ah, the doctor is overreacting," he stated, his voice gruff. "I'm fine. There's no need to fuss over an old man like me."
I let out a frustrated sigh, knowing that arguing with my father was pointless when he had made up his mind. "If you say so."
"I actually came here today to discuss something important with you," my father began, his voice dropping to a serious tone.
He paused for a moment, gauging my reaction. Then he spoke, his words hitting me like a bombshell.
"I've arranged a marriage for you," he stated, his voice firm and uncompromising.
