Chapter 2

"Up, Up! Time for classes!" i rolled over with a grown

"No, no! Mr get up! You've gotten away without school for days now! It's time for you to go!"

"mommmmmm..What about Beverly and dad?" i heard a aa groan and then got pulled by my foot off the bed

"Dressed! I can take care of them! I'm not that old!"

She yelled before walked out of the room

"Love you too!"

"Oh shut up!"

Laughing as i picked out my cloths for the day packing a few notebooks and pens

Walking downstairs I heard Beverly coughing from her room and walked to the door, "you okay in there? Need any meds?"

A small 'no' was the reply "you sure?"

The voice was louder this time, she was most likely standing by the door now, "yes, just a bit of a coughing fit, it'll go away soon, go to school ask Alice how she's doing? For me please?"

I sighed "alright. I'll talk to you after school, I promise."

"Thank you Cherri. Love you"

"Love ya little sis!" I yelled as I ran out the door, mom glaring at me, she wasn't much of a morning person when she didn't get enough sleep i'll talk to her later though.

"Hey, I'm older than you!" Beverly yelled from her broken window and I laughed.

...

The damp moldy windows of the old school building filled with light as I stood by the entrance, i was normally early.

School was my only real getaway from all the drama, sure i could never fully get away but i was able to ignore it better when it's not all you hear while walking down a busy road.

I walked into the small classroom, out of the five it was probably one of the cleaner ones. Sure it still had old grimy walls and broken chairs but it didn't thave the nearly vomit cousin stench some of the others had.

And this one was closer to the bathrooms

The teacher Mrs, stevens, walked in not long after i sat down setting a few books on the old dark wooden desk, it was like the ones the students got due to the fact the larger one had been kicked around a tad to much and broke a few legs leaving it with a forever tilt that was just unbearable to teach with.

"I see your here early, again"

I smiled "first come first serve. Some just don't understand that I guess."

"Oh no they understand plenty, i just don't think anyone else is willing enough to get here before the school actually opens."

She looked at me pointedly, her old reading glasses rested on her slightly crooked nose, old grayish brown hair framed her face, she was a nice lady, but had the look of an old karen. It was terrifying at first but we all grew to love her over time.

"Well this time it wasnt all me, mom forced me to go. Not that i don tlike going!"

She walked up to the chalk board a small peace white chalk held in her hands

"Well mister 'my mom made me come' how about you help me set up for todays lessons."

"Sure can do, want me to get the books?"

She waited a moment before replying "no not today, i think i'll just do the reading, how bout you get a few of the notebooks out for anyone who wants to actually write?"

I gave a short nod and set off on my task.

...

As i finished up a few students had started to trickle in

Some looked like they'd just woken up and others looked like they hadn't even gotten sleep.

People fought for chairs and desks, throwing my hard work out the window...literally.

Notebooks were flying as people fought to get the best chairs, or to get a chair in the only good classroom.

I simply sat there, I wouldn't say I was a teacher's pet. Sure I was passing school with the highest grade with what we had. And ya sure the teachers all treated me differently. But I was no teacher's pet.

No one seemed to bug me though due to the thought that if they did the teachers would fail them. Wow. i heard from mom and dad most kids hated school and would rather fail and have fun than do their work.

Apparently not anymore. Not when school was one of the only things we had left.

Funny how the world will change when your freedom is taken away..

"Calm down! Sit, sit! If you don't have a seat you're going to mr jhoans class! Get going! Shoo!"

Mrs. Stevens yelled at the student who where playing a haughty game of tug-o-war with a chair.

"But Mrs! alvin -"

"No! Put the chair down! Clara is taking it because you two idiots can't seem to ever get along! Go shoo!"

The two boys quickly put the chair down with one more glare at each other before grabbing what they'd brought in with them and walking from the room, clara quickly took her seat picking up the abandoned book, the rest of the class- whos already found there spots and stopped fighting- snickered quietly at the two males.

"Now then.. Let's start, whoever does not have a notebook on their desk has the lovely job of finding it on the floor, or going back outside where I know half of you all threw the poor things. Whatever notes you miss in class cant be made up! And the notebook will be assigned to you!"

I sighed as I flipped open to a non scribbled up page, the notes were easy enough to keep track of but half of them had been written over or the handwriting was just horrid.

Oh well, its just one more class to get through the notes never really do much anyway.

...

Somehow the class was the worst one I ever came to.. Mrs Stevens was on point with all her teachings but students all around me scribbled and talked.

I'd never minded before but today's lesson was on the 'fall' as we called it, the moment in history we all go over how the upper class got the idea of booting all us lower class to the dark, and raise their living to the sky.

We'd talked about it before but never in great detail. So hearing useless whispers of recent drama and news didn't do anything but make me agitated and want to punch the next kid to speak when Mrs. Stevens was turned.

I was lucky to have held back when Marcus started his long daily rant on how cool his family is.

Sure he had a good life here, his grandma was rich and lived in the upper world she often sent them things as gifts they would trade for high prices.

Somehow he never failed to bring up how he would soon be brought to live with his grandma when she passed and left all her money to him.

It made me cringe how often he brought it up.

Like he's trying to convince even himself.

No one from the higher level was allowed to pass on money to those of us living down here.

It was the law.

If you're born broke you die broke.

It made sense in a way, but then again...it would be nice to see the sun at least once in his life. Maybe even real stars..
