"No way in hell," Yosei says coldly to me.

"Huh?" I blink and tilt my head in confusion.

"ARE YOU STUPID OR PLAIN RECKLESS!? DIDN'T I JUST SAY THAT THE WAY OF INCREASING OUR POWERS IS RISKY?! WHY THE HECK ARE YOU GUNG HO ON RISKING YOUR LIFE FOR SOMETHING YOU DON'T KNOW A DAMN THING ABOUT?!" Yosei scolds me while repeatedly hitting my right shoulder with her right index finger.

"See this here, Ki?! This is your life force alongside the brain that you should have!" Yosei continues to scold me, then scratches her head. "What are you thinking? Believing that things will go your way just because you want to be helpful? Well, newsflash: we all want to keep you safe...."

"..." I lower my head and close my eyes. But that doesn't last long before I stand my ground and look at Yosei with determination. "I did think about it, Yosei..." I whisper.

"Huh?" Yosei looks at me in shock.

"I did think about it, and now I want to do it. With more pain, the less suffering you guys endure. I'm not sure myself, but I’ve been the strongest when it comes to strong will—at least in terms of enduring painful memories. So maybe—maybe if I take most of the pain and suffer, then you girls can take the 'easier' route. That way, you all can win this bet and be at peace..." I smile.

"Besides, I know you all can look out for each other. And I know there are promises we'll keep for each other. So I'd rather have the most pain and suffering than any of you. That’s why I want to go first. That way, you all can get a glance at the progress and be mentally prepared." I explain while sighing in relief at the end.

I mean every word.

I want the girls to suffer the least. If I can endure the most pain, then perhaps they can have it easier. That way, they all can gather strength to face off against the monster when that time comes.

I look at my left hand. "With this, I can be helpful..." I think to myself.

"..." Yosei closes her eyes and lets out a deep sigh. "No, it won’t. You’ll only hurt yourself. Listen, no matter how high the pain feels to you, all of us will have to feel pain regardless. What you’ll be doing is worrying everyone."

"So it won’t decrease your pain level?" I ask.

"No, silly. If anything, you’ll only add to our pain by watching you suffer more than you need to. Next time, ask some questions before jumping to conclusions, okay?" Yosei says sweetly.

"O-okay," I nod.

"Okay, with that being said, who wants to go first? The sooner we do this, the sooner we can get it over with." Yosei says with a small smile.

"Hmm... can't we all do it at the same time?" Tao questions.

"The maximum is two at a time. Hey, I just realized we can do two at once! Why don’t we do that?!" Yosei suggests.

"But there are five of us. Wouldn't that be uneven?" Kuma asks with concern.

"Nah," Yosei slowly lowers her collar and reveals her veins pumping up and down, burning red. You can see the veins wanting to pop at any moment.

I can hear the veins pumping from here. It’s like hitting a tree with a baseball bat really hard.

Now that I see those veins on Yosei’s skin, my heart picks up with Yosei's heartbeat, which is racing.

How come I didn’t pick it up sooner?

"What the?!" I take a step back.

"W-what is that?" Kuma asks in fright.
