chunking another shot of water at the target, I hit dead on yet not a dent is made. I sigh frustrated at how futile this truly feels.
"You can do better than that! I know you can!" The commanding voice says, as she walks past me to watch the other cats train. That's Barracuda, the leader of the water cat tribe. She's a hot pinkish cat with signature fins on her checks, something that every water cat has. Except me. She has really been cracking down on training after a war broke out between us and those sharks. Our leader walks toward me after making her rounds
"Come on Ashur, I know you can hit the target hard too!" I hope I can. I recall the water from my last failed attempt and form another arrow. This time instead of just shooting the water I freeze the water beside me. I use my full body force to shoot the ice arrow at the target. As the ice hits it topples over.
"Why don't you use your ice all the time? It clearly does a lot more than without it!" A trainee says next to me. Because it's embarrassing having to use it when everyone else can just hit it and do damage. My ears move to the side as I flick my tail at him, cuing him to shut up.
"You all have earned yourself a break! Make sure to pick up all your water and go get some food." As everyone packs up and returns to their groups, they begin walking to our town for their break and to find food. As I also begin to walk the Captain clears her throat as I turn to her.
"Can you go check on Fish? I fear he may goof off again instead of train." Fish is a member of the tribe with a great reputation, with the skills to boot it. However he tends to not pay attention and acts more childish in situations where it is unhelpful. He gained his unique name from his unique affiliation to easily make sea creatures with the water.
"Yes Ma'am." I quickly say.
"Thank you" she responds, as she walks off toward the others. I begin walking the other direction.
Heading deeper into the forest, dodging low hanging branches, I make it to the patch of grass we designated for special training. Our original training area was built on the closest spot to land from our town which rests on a lagoon. This special spot is further inland for more dangerous training. Fish comes into view. A dark blue water cat who sports lighter blue fins along his cheeks. The practice Fish got involved with includes him conjuring up a shark from the ground to chomp on his foes. But when his water loses control, The water goes sharp and tends to cut up nearby objects. Hence to why he is here. As I walk into the clearing he spots me and his face lights up, mine matching his energy.
"Hello friend!" He exclaims as he walks over his tail swishing from side to side.
"How has training been?" I question, expecting an answer of 'oh I haven't been training'
"It's been fine. I'm now able to perfectly form a shark! But I can't seem to get the teeth to be sharp..." Hey progress is progress what can I say. As he says this, his ears gravitate lower.
"Don't worry I'm the same way. I can't get the water to sharpen either!" I exclaim trying to lighten his mood. It seems to work as he perks up again.
"It would make training ten times easier if you were doing it with me! Come on, let's start now!" Fish then walks to my side and pushes me further into the clearing, intent on training with me here and now. I don't understand how it would make it easier but I'd gladly take the chance to hang out with him. I shimmy to the left, causing Fish to stumble, as I walk into the clearing opposite of where he was originally standing.
