"Babe I'm not going to waste my energy arguing with you about this," he says calmly as he turns and walks away leaving me standing there feeling frustrated and misunderstood.
"We are not arguing; we are simply having a civil conversation about our future. However, every time I bring up kids, it seems like the topic annoys you. I don't understand, James, you do love me, don't you? " I ask as I follow closely behind him.
"Adama, are you serious right now? Is that a question?" he says turning around and facing me.
I gaze at him with a serious expression, hoping to get him to see how upset I am. It pains me that he seems to avoid discussing the topic of starting a family. While I don't want to pressure him into having children, we did agree on this decision before we got married.
"Yes James, it is a question because your actions are causing me to question everything."
"How's that? " he inquires with a visible display of frustration on his face.
"Because don't you recall our discussions about having children before we got married? You were happy with the thought of building a family with me."
"I'm not opposed to having children, my love. I just feel like you might be moving too quickly on this. It's wonderful that you're ready for kids, but please understand that I may not be on the same page yet. How about this: we can have unprotected sex, and if you happen to conceive, we can see it as part of God's plan."
As I heard those words coming out of his mouth, my face lit up with joy. I am unable to fully express my emotions at this moment; it feels like a surreal experience for me.
"A thousand times yes!" I exclaim as I enthusiastically launch towards him, wrapping him in a warm hug.
With a mischievous grin, I gaze at him.
"Shall we begin?"
"After you, my love," he responded, gesturing towards the bedroom.
I hurry into the room, filled with excitement, hopeful that this could be the moment that results in me becoming pregnant with my first child.
I had never moved so swiftly before. As we hugged one another my thoughts were filled with anticipation for the family we would soon create together. Once our passionate moment ended, I drifted off to sleep in the comfort of his arms.
The sun shined through the curtains, and I covered my eyes with my arm, trying to shield them from the brightness. I rubbed my eyes as I prepared myself for the day ahead. Upon opening my eyes, I noticed that I was alone in bed, with James nowhere to be found. I got out of bed, wrapped a robe around my body, and walked out of the room. As I made my way out, the enticing smell of food floated through the air.
Making my way into the kitchen, I see James cooking breakfast shirtless. I can't deny that it's quite alluring to me.
"Good morning, sweetheart," he greets me without even glancing in my direction. His ability to sense my presence without looking never fails to impress me. It's like a special talent of his.
"How are you able to do that? " I inquire, approaching him from behind.
"I'm just amazing," he replies, turning towards me and planting a kiss on my lips. The moment our lips meet, it feels like pure magic. The spark in our relationship has never faded, with each day feeling like I'm on a first date. I hope to always maintain this special connection with him.
"Would you like me to assist with breakfast? " I offer, stepping to the side to get a better view of the stove.
"No, my dear, I'm fine. Just go ahead and get changed into some pajamas and come join me for breakfast after.
I respond with a nod before leaving the kitchen and making my way into the bedroom.
I discovered a cute loungewear set in the closet and decided to put it on. After checking myself in the mirror to ensure I looked presentable, I made my way to the dining room table. As I entered the kitchen, my husband greeted me with a smile. To my surprise, the dining room table was already set and food was prepared waiting for me to enjoy.
"Please have a seat, babe," he says, motioning for me to sit down across from him.
I then took my seat and glanced down at my plate, which was filled with bacon, eggs, pancakes, and toast; my favorite breakfast combination, I must say.
I take a sip of my orange juice and it tastes like grass. I look up at James, who is enjoying his food. I guess he could feel my eyes on him because he looked up and gave me a puzzled look.
"What's wrong Ada? " he asks, confused.
"What type of juice is this? Don't tell me it's organic. You know I hate organic orange juice, it tastes like grass."
"I'm sorry, honey. I did get organic because I thought it would be healthier for the baby since we are trying and I just want to make sure we are both doing our best to be as healthy as possible," he said empathetically with a smile on his face.
I felt a pang of guilt in my stomach for getting upset with him for looking out for me.
"Yeah, I'm sorry I didn't mean to get upset. I know you are just trying to look out for me. It's just that sometimes I feel overwhelmed with everything going on. Your concern means a lot to me. "
"Babe, it's all good," he says, flashing me a grin that is so cheesy. He looks so relaxed and carefree that it made me smile a little. "Now, sit back down," he says warmly. "You don't want your food to get cold, do you?" He gestured toward my plate, which was still piled high with all the delicious food he had just prepared. I nodded my head and joined him at the table again.
As we sat together in peaceful silence enjoying our breakfast and casually conversing I couldn't help but feel incredibly grateful for having a man like James in my life. His love and devotion never cease to amaze me. After finishing our meal I excused myself and returned to the room to pick out my clothes for the day.
