I came out of the backyard and entered the house .No a thing in the house seemed familiar. Everything were kept clean and tidy. I prepared a cup of coffee . With the cup I walked into Nancy's room. I sat on the chair and sipped the coffee. I tried to remember about the night with Elias. It was so touching that I wanted to go to him again. I tried to hold back my tears. I was happy by thinking that Elias came to know about this world of Nancy. What about his world? Was he now in that other world of Danny? Just then Anne came to my room. " Nancy, Jezz waiting for you outside " she pointed towards the door. I came out and saw him waiting with an old fashioned car. " I found out the botanical garden that you are interested in doing research work " he said " I mean you asked for my help in finding it before your accident " he blared. "Wait a minute I am coming " I hurriedly went to the Nancy's room to change clothes. I opened the closet and took out a frock. To my surprise it fitted me perfectly. I looked at the mirror. The sign of stitches became faintier. I came out of the room and jumped into Jezz' car. " You look great" Jezz smiled. I smiled back. I have to pretend Nancy. " Its 8 miles from here " he started the engine and moved on. "Jezz, do you remember that there was a peepal tree in our backyard? I asked him. "Yeah! Why?" he looked at me. "It was cut down , I saw " I told him. Jezz gave a loud crack of laughter. "I along with two other men cut it with an axe. Your mother asked me to cut it as the spot was always shady. No sunshine can penetrate. It always depicts a feeling of despair in her. Now there's plenty of sunshine and planned to use the spot for other purpose." Jezz breathed . " But when?" I asked him. " The day you had the accident. I know you are so attached to it. Sorry dear I don't want to hurt you" he showed his concern to her. "Its okay I am just asking " I looked at him. He drove the car looking ahead. After half an hour he took a turn. There were no signs of houses. A bare landscape. We travel for half an hour. Jezz put on a music on the radio. He was singing softly with the music . Should I tell him about Nancy's letter to him? I thought. Better not.
We came to a forest like landscape. A fencing was given at the boundary. Jezz parked his car at the side. We entered through a gate and was amazed to see the view. A wider thoroughfare with trees of different species on either side. A small tin plated was attached to each tree with its scientific name . I scanned each tree. " Why didn't you bring your diary, where you used to keep all the records?" Jezz was a little bit confused. " Yeah! You forgot your routine after the accident ". Jezz seemed to be annoyed. " Would you please give me a paper?" I asked a man who was cleaning the ground. He nodded and went away. After a minute he brought a paper and gave it to me. I thanked him. Jezz offered me his pen. Then to show him I just wrote the names of the trees. I was not at all interested in doing so. Jezz walked away from me and began to talk with those men who were cleaning the garden. He seemed to be fully engrossed with their conversation. I thought about Nancy. What was the research work she was doing? " I have to find her diary." I told myself. " Come on let's go . Its an hour now." Jezz took my hand and led me back to the entrance. I parted my hand from his. I didn't like his touching. A good guy he seemed to be. But he is Nancy's not mine. Suddenly I wanted to go to my apartment, but that isn't possible. I got up on his car. Jezz started his car and drove at full speed. I didn't care how he drive or collided at something. So many things were already happening in my life. I closed my eyes. Jezz put on the radio and a light music could be heard. Twenty minutes passed. No communication between us. " Nancy, want to drive?" Jezz slowed down the car. I opened my eyes. " Yeah !" I looked at him. Jezz halted. He stepped down and came to the other side where I was sitting. I moved to the driver's seat. I started the car and moved ahead. It reminds me of those days when I used take a long drive alone . Jezz turned the volume a little louder and was singing along with it. I could not resist my smile. I laughed aloud. The tension in the car eased slowly. I drove straight till we reached Nancy's house. I stepped down the car. Jezz waved me and drove away. I entered the house.
