Step Eleven:
Make sure you've closed that chapter with your ex.
I personally wouldn't talk to them, but who knows?
Talking things out might help.
He kept telling himself he'd done the right thing.
It's not like he'd planned on clearing the air that way, nor had he meant to hurt her. But eventually, he knew Jazmine would forgive him.
At least, he hoped so.
Now that a day had passed, he wasn't too sure what would happen anymore.
She'd been really upset about what he said, and he hadn't seen her all morning.
Which really irked him, considering all he did was tell Jazmine the truth.
Hell, that's all he'd been doing since the day they'd met.
So why did he feel so guilty?
"My man, Huey!" His great uncle, Fred smiled, sliding his palm into his hand. "Ready to head on off to college, ain't ya?"
"I guess." Huey nodded, glancing behind him to greet the rest of the family. "How was the drive up from Memphis?"
"Not bad." The man shook his head, smiling back at Granddad. "Ya'll know I woulda drove twelve hours to see this here." The man laughed, shaking his head at his brother. "I wasn't gon' miss this crazy wedding for nothing! My brother finally locked that woman of his on down!"
The rest of the family erupted into laughter, causing Grandad's face to redden.
"Frederick, hush!" Cookie slapped his shoulder before Granddad could start hollering, reaching out to hug both her nephews. "We're happy he's marrying Ebony, aren't we family?"
"Yesssssssss."About seven more of his cousins chorused before going back to whatever they'd been discussing before.
Her new husband Eddie nodded, glancing back at Ebony and Robert. "Wouldn't miss it for the world." He smiled at Aunt Cookie pulling her close. "The Nichols newlyweds couldn't be more excited about all this."
"And we are so happy about that." Granddad lied, the vein on his forehead nearly popping out onto the ground. "It sure was good to see you all before our wedding. I'm sure you all are tired from all that driving, and I don't wanna keep you here long, soooooo-"
"Relax, Robert." Cookie rolled her eyes. "We got a hotel far away from your stingy ass!"
"Shooooo did." Fred laughed. "Even got a good view of the city."
"And what about our other cousins, Jericho and dem?" Granddad glared. "They're still coming up from Louisiana, right?"
"Fred and I handled it, Robert." Cookie smiled, glancing back at her husband. "The Nichols family owns a few properties out here. They'll be in an Airbnb that'll house them and take care of all their expenses. You just focus on enjoying the next couple of days. Me, Eddie, and Fred got it from here."
"Well, alright..." Granddad's eyes softened. "Thank you."
Fred and Cookie smiled, walking over to hug him and Ebony while Eddie hung back, smiling at them as he snapped a few photos.
"That's what family's for."
Riley poked Huey before he could get too lost in the moment, causing him to turn his head and glare at him.
