Most of the train ride passed by in a blink of an eye.Our mentor Brutus had some 'capitol business' according to our escort Tilly, so I mostly started coming up with a mental game plan by watching the reaping to see our competition.Cato took a quick glance at the reapings before deeming we could win by a landslide.I didn't bother to let him know there was no 'we'.

I knew perfectly well the games were a bloodbath. You either eat or get eaten and I for one intended to bring victory. That meant other than alliances I would never get attached to my fellow tributes, even my charming district partner.

Once we arrived, Cato stole the show by charming the giddy fangirls with his pearly white smile. The capitol elites cheered for him, only for him.I had barely created an impression. However I held my head high to show my cool confidence, though I felt a twinge of fear.

Before I could even spare a breath my stylist, Jazmeen, ushered me to get cleaned up.What I didn't know was she was fully revamping my look. The scar on my abdomen which I earned after winning a spear fight with a guy from my training centre, the bruises on my knees I got when I constantly practised climbing rocks and even some of my rashes I earned when I went hunting, were all wiped to prep me up as a capitol doll.Something about me looked so fake.I scoffed loudly, annoyed that this was part of the games.Jazmeen stared at me for a while though I could not decipher her expression.

"Look I have worked with countless number of girls like you.You want to be seen as intimidating not some helpless coward. If you cooperate I can make you look like what you want to be seen."

I glanced at her before nodding.Jazmeen seemed bearable at least. She started assembling some gold armoury on me, its intricate engravings catching the light. After what seemed like a decade she finally placed a gold helmet on me.I looked in the mirror.I looked prepared for the battle.

"You look nice," Cato said, also adorned with similar gold armoury like mine.

"Shut up."

"I was just trying to pay a compliment to a friend,"He replied holding up his hands as a sign of surrender.

"We are not friends," I said with spite.I had to make it clear to him.We would eventually kill each other. Why bother putting up with pretences. It was better if we mutually agreed to stay away from other.

Finally we went on the gold chariot pulled by horses.I climbed on and stood next to Cato, his blond hair glistening with the gold. Finally the horses started to pull the chariot as we waved to all the capitol citizens and the potential sponsors.Everything was going smoothly before the crowd was in an uproar as the tributes from district 12 were introduced. This was not suppose to happen. We were one of the richest districts. We were careers. We were suppose to win the crowd.

I was about to turn around to stare at the district 12 tributes, Katniss and Peeta, with dagger-like eyes before Cato took hold of my hand.Luckily, the chariot blocked the sight of his hand clutching onto mine so no one took notice. Not that they would since Katniss and Peeta were holding up their hands, wrapped around each other. \

"Don't turn around,"Cato whispered in a harsh breath. He started squeezing my hand that it started to become more painful.I didn't let that look like a weakness.

"I'm going to kill both of them the minute we step onto the arena,"Cato muttered looking at a distance that it took me a second to realise he was talking to me.

"I'm already picturing slitting their throats."

"Are you now?"

"Don't worry I have more creative plans to kill you."

"Without a doubt," Cato replied with a smirk.A smirk which I returned.
