It was a cold, rainy day, unusual for Medford Texas, when Connie Tucker got the news that would change her life. She was going about her day when she got a phone call from the highschool. “Hello?” “We need you to come down to the office, Mrs. Tucker.” She sped to get here, practically breaking 15 traffic laws in the process.

When she arrived, she marched straight to the principal’s office. When she swung open the door, she saw Mary in one chair sobbing and next to her…was that…George Cooper?? Damn it. He was always hanging around her; he and Mary seemed to be an off and on item. Connie snapped back to her surroundings. Mary was still sobbing, the principal reached a reassuring hand out, saying something along the lines of, “Have you considered…other options, Mrs Tucker?” Connie's heart dropped to her stomach. Other options? Like…abortion?? But that means.. “Mary tucker!!” Connie snapped “We are going home, now!!”

Mary explained everything. It turned out she and George had been messing around like the immature teenagers they were and had been getting freaky. One thing left to another and now Connie was going to be a grandmother at the ripe old age of 35. Connie sighed deeply. “Is there any chance you won't keep the baby?” Mary’s eyes welled up with tears and she sniffled. “No way!! I can't mom, I just can't.” “Well, you’re young, but you’ll have to marry the father. That's just how things work. I'm sorry honey.”

9 months later

Connie rushed next to the gurney, clutching Mary's hand.

The waiting room was cold, she tapped her feet, checked her watch.

“Come in,” said the nurse.

Connie looked down at her brand new grandson, swaddled in a blue blanket and hat, and couldn’t imagine anything more perfect.
