(Karina's POV)
We waited for a while in that tiny little cramped space, me still trying to hold in my sneeze but when no one came up, it felt like for a while, time stopped. Just for us. You know, I couldn't even hear the neighbours next door or the sirens. At this point, everything was-
"It's too quiet. Something's going on." He gave me a nod, showcasing that he agreed with me and opened the trapdoor that was concealing us from the world above."Ugh."
"Why'd they leave?"
"No clue. Something tells me we're gonna find out soon enough."He concluded.
We finally climbed our way out of the stuffy space and I never realised that my limbs were so in need of stretching but I groaned when I realised that my wounds seared with pain and that the stupid piece of rope was still there, taunting me with the fact that I couldn't do anything about it even though I was finally out of the torture chamber.
"Since we've been through and survived a whole squad of police showing up to the apartment and made it out without getting arrested, shouldn't you trust me enough to take this off?"
"Do you trust me?"
"Not as far as I can throw you but that's different."
"How so?"
"Can you just take it off? It's pissing me off and I had to endure showering with a whole truck load of fresh wounds without being able to actually do anything about them all because you tied my hands up after 'saving me' from that place all because you didn't trust me or something."
Silence. Silence that I've come to terms with after staying a few hours with him. Silence that is so charged with electricity that I could burn up on the snowiest of days. Silence that I can't stand.
"No." He rebuked while I rolled my eyes, exasperated because I really did think that he wouldn't keep me prisoner.
The lights suddenly flicker on and off, which didn't really make much of a difference because of the bright sunlight was still shining through the window but he immediately grabbed my hand and cut the rope with a pair of scissors he must've yanked from a nearby cupboard, leaving me with a gaping mouth as he harshly tugged me in the direction of the door.
Trusting myself not to trust myself and follow him, I stated, "You said that I couldn't be trusted and the next thing that you decide to do is let me go. How strange. I'm not complaining tho," I added quickly, raising my hands in surrender at his fierce glare. Instead I'm actually feeling positively bubbly.
"Don't ask questions, we don't have time for that. All I know is that something is happening but not what." He slams the door open, ignoring the fact that we could be ambushed as soon as we step out the door but luckily, (or so I thought) there was no one there. Deathly silent.
He muttered a few words under his breath I couldn't quite hear properly and pulled me down a flight of stairs. By the 3rd flight I was already panting because of the bad shape I had been in for the past 2 weeks at the prison but a loud noise had me jumping to my feet.
"Surrender or DIE." I recognized the voice as the leader of the police officers that were in his apartment earlier. "We've already evacuated the nearby citizens and we know that Karina is with you, and whether on her own will or not, you are both a dangerous threat to this whole facility and as such, will be terminated. Good luck on getting out of here when everything's about to be blown up." He sounded sick and cruel with a hint of glee in his voice before he paused. "Alongside your dusty old apartment, Evans."
A little crackle and snap signalling that the message was already cut, leaving us in silence.
Only for a second though, before we ran like never before.
