The night passed by faster than he expected. He didn't realize how much he had been looking forward to seeing Kyra again until the morning light hit his window.
The usual routine of practice, media sessions, and team debriefs passed in a blur as his mind kept drifting back to the thought of their coffee date. But despite the busyness of the day, he found himself grinning every time the idea crossed his mind.
By the time the afternoon came around, he was ready. He had just finished practice, his body feeling both exhausted and energized, and now, the anticipation of seeing Kyra again felt like an adrenaline rush of a different kind.
He made his way back to his flat to freshen up, making sure he looked just the right mix of casual and put-together.
A few minutes later, he was standing outside the café Kyra had mentioned, a small, charming place nestled in a quieter corner of the city. The smell of fresh coffee and pastries wafted through the air, making him more excited. He checked his watch—still a little early, but he didn't mind.
His phone buzzed again, and this time, it was Kyra.
"I'm here! Coco's already making herself comfortable."
Shubman chuckled to himself and replied:
"I'll be there in a second. Don't let Coco steal my seat!"
As he stepped inside, he spotted Kyra right away. She was seated at a small corner table near the window, her laptop open in front of her, but her attention was solely on Coco, who was curled up beside her on the chair, looking up at Shubman with an expression of silent judgment.
"You've got your own fan club already, huh?" Shubman teased, walking over with a smile.
Kyra glanced up at him, her eyes lighting up. "Looks like it," she said with a grin, adjusting Coco in her lap.
"Coco's already decided you're cool enough to hang out with. The barista, not so much, though."
Shubman laughed, pulling out the chair across from her. "Well, I guess I'll have to prove myself to the barista, then. You always make such high-level decisions, huh, Coco?" he said, reaching out to gently scratch the golden retriever behind her ears.
Coco leaned into his touch, tail wagging furiously, as if to say, you passed the test.
Kyra shook her head, still grinning. "You've got her approval now. Don't get too cocky, though. She's a tough one."
