Book Name - WHAT'S IN A NAME?
Author - Uditasree
Title and Summary: 5/5
The title is likely not one I'd pick up in a library, but reading the summary, I'm intrigued! You do a good job of using dialogue and background to draw in attention, and make the reader ask enough questions to keep going. I'd read your story even if I wasn't obligated to! It also prompts more questions than answers from a reader, especially looking at the title and reading the tags.
Book Cover: 4/5
If you made it yourself, color me impressed! It's also not exactly the sort of book I'd hone in on just for the cover, but it serves your purposes. You did cover all the base requirements, like putting your title and name on it (as well as some of the characters?), making it attractive and somewhat curious as to discovering what's inside. So good job!
Writing Style: 4.5/5
You have a very straightforward writing style, with plenty of details about the scenery. Sometimes I got a bit confused, but that might just be me. It's such a fun story though, too. I didn't feel like reading it was a chore (I did, a bit, but that was just because I was trying to read it in my spare 15 minutes)
Punctuation/Grammar: 4/5
You switched past and present tense occasionally, which made it a bit harder to read, but it's not really a huge thing.
Characters: 5/5
Even though I struggled a bit figuring out who everyone was at first, I'm not going to deduct any points because of just how amazing these characters are! As soon as I got it, I was swept up in just four chapters! Phalguni went through such development, having at first rejected Akash just because of his name, but learning about herself and her feelings over the course of the story before fully embracing them. Akash went on an emotional roller coaster, but is such an innocent and innocuous person, he makes a great character for a short story. I also loved the character of Anshu. Even though she was only in two scenes, I'm in love with her fun and upbeat personality. Overall, fantastic work in this department!
Plot: 4.5/5
A bit of a cliche plot, but it doesn't feel like it when you're reading. The love in the characters and understanding that everyone comes to overwhelms the plot at the end in the most wholesome way possible. I'd definitely read it again, but I have to do your other books first! 😊
Comments:
It helped a lot when you put the glossary at the end of each chapter! I was getting a bit lost 😅. Also, I saw a theme going on about judgement, love, and happiness! Which is amazing, by the way. Not all stories have themes. This story is so incredibly wholesome though, with beautiful imagery and beautiful ending. I'd definitely read more and am very excited to review your other stories!
Focus Points:
Try and keep it all in third person. I didn't see much of this later on, but you switched a lot at the beginning.
Good work here!
Overall Score: 27/30
