The journey to Blackmoor had been exhausting. The village lay far from bustling cities, hidden away like a secret along the foggy coast. As Evelyn stepped off the worn ferry, she felt the cold sea breeze nip at her skin, carrying the scent of salt and decay. She shivered but felt something within her—a familiar, almost comforting darkness calling her deeper into the village.
The villagers were wary, casting sidelong glances as Evelyn asked about the abandoned mansion, the one hidden in the depths. They called it The Sunken Bride’s Manor, claiming it was a cursed place, haunted by the spirits of lovers who had betrayed one another in a desperate, doomed pact. Most shrugged her off, but one old woman met her eyes with a knowing look.
“It’s said they were bound by love…and death,” the woman whispered, clutching her pendant tightly. “Two souls lost in that place forever. Best keep your distance, dear, before you find yourself pulled under too.”
Ignoring the warnings, Evelyn took up residence in a small cottage at the cliff’s edge, overlooking the hauntingly beautiful, mist-shrouded waters below.
