After that night, Evelyn’s life unravelled. Estelle’s presence lingered around her, infecting her thoughts, twisting her dreams into nightmares. She’d see Estelle’s twisted face in her mirror, hear her voice hissing warnings when she dared to think of Lucien. But the more she tried to resist, the stronger her obsession grew.

Lucien began appearing to Evelyn in brief moments, always on the cliffs, always beckoning her. The villagers grew uneasy, sensing her descent into madness. “The curse is taking hold,” they whispered.

One stormy night, unable to bear the torment any longer, Evelyn returned to the cliff where she’d first seen him. She braved the waves, the cold biting her as she waded into the sea, feeling herself pulled toward the manor beneath. Suddenly, she felt a warm hand grasp her own.

Lucien.

He pulled her down with him, their bodies entwined as they sank deeper and deeper. The waters around them grew darker, colder. She struggled to breathe but found herself losing the will to fight as she looked into his sorrowful eyes.
