The Ballad of Mona Lisa
She paints her fingers with a close precision
He starts to notice empty bottles of gin
And takes a moment to assess the sin she's paid for
Arthur looked up at the beautiful queen before him, her (h/l) (h/c) hair done up fancily to be tucked up into her magnificent crown. "Please your Majesty," he pleaded, "I beg of you, spare more supplies for the people."
Queen (Y/N). The most shielded, the most cold, but also the most beautiful queen in all the land. The man before her, Arthur Kirkland, had come to her, begging for more supplies for the people of her kingdom, (C/N).
"The whole kingdom is in peril, Kirkland!" she sniffed, "Why should your village matter more than another?"
A lonely speaker in a conversation
Her words are swimming through his ears again
There's nothing wrong with just a taste of what you paid for
Arthur, glanced up at the queen again, for a moment daring to look her in the eye. She stared back, daring him to say something else.
He bowed stiffly, "My apologies your Majesty. I best be on my way." Arthur spun on his heel, and stalked out the castle doors.
Say what you mean
Tell me I'm right
And let the sun rain down on me
Give me sign, I wanna believe.
'That bloody woman!' Arthur thought indignantly, 'She just refuses to admit I'm right!'
Woah, Mona Lisa
You're guaranteed to run this town
Woah, Mona Lisa
I paid to see you frown!
(Y/N) stared at the retreating figure of Arthur Kirkland, wishing desperately to cry out to him, to say that she would give him the supplies. But alas, she couldn't. She barely had enough supplies to keep the kingdom running, let alone spare extra for a single solitary town.
She called her adviser and asked what supplies were left in the castle. He stiffly responded, saying that they had 50 pounds of food left, 12 pounds of blankets, and 5 pounds of medicine.
The queen nodded curtly and dismissed him.
Glancing back at the castle doors, (Y/N) stood up from her throne and walked to her chambers, her (f/c) gown flowing behind her. 'I'm definitely going to regret this.' She thought, 'You better know what you're doing, Kirkland.'
He senses something, call it desperation
Another dollar, another day
And if she had the proper words to say, she would tell him
But she'd have nothing left to sell him
"A message from the queen!" a young boy shouted. He ran through the village, yelling out the news.
Say what you mean
Tell me I'm right
And let the sun rain down on me
Give me a sign, I wanna believe
The townspeople ran from their homes to the town message board, where indeed a message from the queen was displayed, proudly bearing her signature and seal.
'To the people of (C/N),
It has come to my attention that things are far worse in the kingdom then I possibly could have imagined. That is why I have decreed the following: all the supplies that have been left in storage in the castle shall be equally distributed among all the villages and towns in the land.
I'm not going to lie to you, these supplies are very few, and the kingdom is growing weaker by the day. But I hope these supplies may help however many of you are left alive and well.
-(Y/F/N)'
Woah, Mona Lisa
You're guaranteed to run this town
Woah, Mona Lisa
I paid to see you frown!
The villagers started in shock at the decree for a few seconds, before jumping and shrieking with joy. "God save the queen!" they cried.
Arthur looked numbly at the message, seeing written in tiny print at the bottom, 'Good luck, Arthur Kirkland.'
Mona Lisa, wear me out
Pleased to please ya
Mona Lisa, wear me out
The queen sighed as she sank into her throne, already hearing her citizens crying with joy at the thought of getting more supplies to help with the crisis at hand.
Her advisor walked in, "Your Majesty, there is a man here to see you." (Y/N) sat up straighter, "Show him in." He bowed and walked back to bring the man in.
Say what you mean
Tell me I'm right
And let the sun rain down on me
Give me a sign, I wanna believe
Arthur Kirkland walked into the throne room. He stopped in front of the throne, removed his hat, and bowed.
Woah, Mona Lisa
You're guaranteed to run this town
Woah, Mona Lisa
I paid to see you frown!
"I came to thank you, your Majesty," Arthur mumbled, "For the new supplies I mean." Queen (Y/N) nodded curtly and waved her hand at him, but couldn't help the smile that now graced her lips.
Say what you mean
Tell me I'm right
And let the sun rain down on me
Give me a sign, I wanna believe
Arthur bowed again, and walked back toward the castle doors, pausing a second when he reached them. He turned back, and smiled at the queen.
There's nothing wrong with just a taste of what you paid for.
