Effortlessly, I smack the alarm clock so that it finally shuts up. I pull myself out of bed and walk to the bathroom. I splash the cold water over my face and stare in the mirror. It's a Monday. It's the first day of school. My hair is a mess. What can possibly be worse than that? Oh wait, now I can hear Emma singing in the shower.
As I walk into the kitchen, Mrs Wilson seems to be preparing a feast. "Good morning Nicole, did you sleep well?" She asked.
"Well I've had better," I said shrugging.
On the table in front of me is everything to make me fat. There are croissants, cinnamon swirls, pancakes, sausages, eggs and anything else imaginable. They were all staring at me but I managed to resist.
"I thought I'd give you a variety," said Mrs Wilson.
"This is more than a variety," I replied. "I think I'll just have some toast though."
A few minutes later, greeting me with a smile, Emma comes and sits on the chair opposite me. She is wearing a mint green top and white jeans.
"Hello," Emma said. I didn't reply. "Guess you're not a morning person then," she said smiling.
"Well it is my first day of school, I'm not really going to be jumping of walls am I."
"You'll be fine you can stick with me."
"Thank but no thanks."
And off I go eating the rest of my toast.
As we drive to Summerhail secondary school, I sit peering out of the window. Driving down the streets of Haywood, I could see the houses are very colourful, like something from Balamory. Emma was next to me, singing to the song 'into the blue' while texting. I swear that she is always happy. The rain is dripping down the window and the winter trees look like they are clawing me in. Finally the car comes to a stop and now I have to get out.
"Well here we are. Nicole enjoy your first day of school!" Mrs Wilson said smiling.
"I'll try to," I said closing the white car door.
"Bye mum, love you," Emma said closing the white car door opposite me.
Approaching the school gates I could see 'Summerhail Secondary School' written boldly on a banner on top. Walking past the gates, the school was revealed. I could see groups of girls ahead of me taking selfies. There is a kid on the floor who seems to be asleep. I could see a group of boys screaming and shouting while playing football and the girls on the side flicking their hair and clapping. Well it seems like the average secondary school.
"Woah this place is big," I said.
"Woah you're actually talking to me," Emma said laughing.
"No I'm not."
"Okay whatever you say. So do you want me to stay with you?"
"No."
"Okay I have to go then Nicole, have fun!" And off she walked, clutching her pearl white bag.
I didn't think that she's actually go but she did. That was very strange of Emma. I could fell my heart beat so loudly it was like it was coming out of my chest. I wasn't ready for this. Okay Nicole, just take a deep breath and walk in those doors.
Confidently, I walk down the hallway until I reach my locker. I open it and start to put my books inside.
"Hello," said an unfamiliar voice. I close my locker but no one is there. I open it again.
"Helloo," said the unfamiliar voice again. I close my locker and this time I am standing next to a boy with blonde scruffy hair. He has his hands in his pockets and is leaning against another locker next to mine.
"Sorry hi, I didn't see you," I said smiling for probably the first time in ages.
"That was the plan you see." Tyler said removing his hands form his pockets. "You must be Nicole, I'm Tyler."
"Yeah, hey."
"Do you know where you're going?"
"Yeah of course, I know this school I've never been to like the back of my hand."
"Oh okay."
"I'm joking," I said smiling.
The bell rings.
"Well I better be off, I'll see you around Tyler."
"Bye!" he said waving. I turn back and he is staring at me... What a creep.
I walk down the corridors until I reach R14. I open the door and are greeted by a hundred eye fixed on me, staring at me as if I'm an animal in a zoo. "Right everyone, this is Nicol, and she's new, so yeah, be nice."
"It's Nicole."
"Oh right sorry. Take a seat anywhere you like."
Decisions, decisions. See I could take the seat in the very far left by the window. Or I could take the seat by the kid who looks asleep, at least he won't be bothering me. Oh wait, there's a seat next to a girl who looks nice. Laughing with her friends, her mahogany red hair flicked around. I could instantly tell that her and her friends are the 'popular group'. I walk over and empty the books out my bag.
"Hello I'm chantel." She said sweetly.
I recognised that name form somewhere but couldn't work out where.
"Hi," I replied.
The rest of the lesson went pretty quick. I spent most on it talking to Chantel and her friends, Tom, Zack, Jordan and Lulu. As I place my books back in my bag, Chantel says, "Do you want to sit with us at lunch?"
"I'd love to." I said smiling.
"Okay, see you then." She said and they all start to walk out.
"Bye guys!" I said.
Well that went well. Even though I told myself not to get into a crowd like that, they seem nice. But then again that's how they all start out.
