The rain cascaded steadily outside, its rhythmic patter on the window the only sound that filled the room. Each droplet seemed to resonate with the silence between Bongbong and Leni, amplifying the void that hung in the air like a suffocating fog. It had been days—days since he had last seen her, and even longer since their final, strained conversation. The gap between them felt insurmountable, an abyss too vast to bridge, no matter how desperately he reached for her.
He sat on the edge of the couch, the dim light from the table lamp casting elongated shadows on the walls, mirroring the darkness in his heart. The air was thick with a palpable tension, heavy with words unsaid, the kind of silence that settled deep within the chest. His phone lay on the table, untouched, as though the mere act of reaching out might shatter something delicate and irretrievable. He had wanted to contact her countless times, but every time he thought about it, a paralyzing uncertainty gripped him, entangling him in doubt.
Was it too late? Had all that they shared already slipped away like sand through his fingers? Was there any point in trying again, or was it a lost cause?
His thoughts drifted, unwilling to remain anchored. They floated back to the better days—the mornings spent entwined in the warmth of each other's arms, the conversations that stretched into the night, their voices rising and falling in harmony as they dreamed of the future. He could almost hear her voice now—soft, playful, her laugh laced with affection, calling his name like a whisper meant only for him.
But now, those memories felt distant, like the fading traces of a dream slipping away upon waking. The warmth, the closeness—everything that once bound them together—now seemed so far removed from the cold, oppressive silence that consumed him. The words "I love you" had once come so easily, effortlessly, but now they hung heavy on his tongue, empty and devoid of the meaning they once carried.
Bongbong picked up his phone, his fingers trembling slightly as he scrolled through the endless list of unread messages. None of them were from Leni. He let out a sharp, frustrated exhale, the weight of longing and sadness pressing down on his chest. The silence was deafening—each unanswered message, each unspoken word, only deepened the distance between them.
He closed his eyes, attempting to steady his racing thoughts, but instead, a song from earlier that week drifted into his mind. I Need You More Today. The lyrics, simple and raw, felt as though they had been written for him, for them. The words struck him deeply, like a lifeline thrown in the midst of a storm.
I need you now, more than ever, more than words can say...
The lyrics echoed in his mind, reverberating within him, and for the first time in days, he felt a powerful surge—a deep, aching need for her. He couldn't deny it. The connection, the pull, the love—it had been undeniable when they were together. And now, here they were, strangers in the silence that stretched between them.

Leni sat in her office, the hum of the fluorescent lights above the only other sound, as she gazed out the window at the rain, now falling in a constant deluge. The view was beautiful in its own melancholic way—the gray sky, the soft blur of the world outside—but it only served to accentuate the isolation she felt inside. She absently traced her fingers along the edge of a letter she had written, and rewritten, countless times.
Let go. It's better this way. You need to move on.
She had repeated those words to herself so many times, hoping they would take root in her mind, but no matter how hard she tried, they never rang true. The weight of her regrets, the things left unsaid, and the words she had never dared to voice, pressed on her heart.
