'Raven! Are you ready? You're gonna be late for school!' Angelina shouted from downstairs.
'I'm coming!' I shouted back. I put eyeliner around my eyes, some dark lipstick on my lips and went downstairs. Angie was already gone, Miss Perfect she is. Straight A's, perfect boyfriend, perfect face. But do I care about that? Well, honestly? I don't give two fucks. She is my sister. Why would I be jealous of her?
I took an apple from the kitchen and went outside to my jeep. My bag with my books for my first lessons was already on the passenger's seat. I started the car and took off. I impatiently waited for the traffic lights. I don't care if I'm late for school, but I don't like waiting. I drifted away when the lights went on green.
Soon I rode onto my parking lot. The basterds knew better than parking on my lot.
I took my bag and jumped out. While walking to the school entrance, I pushed on the lock-button of the key. A beep told me the car was locked. The bell rang just as I was walking up the stairs. I smiled and slowly walked to my first lesson, maths.
I knocked om the door and walked in.
Mr. Lee sighed when he saw me. 'Why do I keep hoping that you will be on time for once?'
'Maybe because you hope there's an Angelina in me, sir. But sorry, she's the Miss Perfect of us two. No offence, sis.' I added looking at her.
'None taken.' She said.
'Just... sit down.' He said. He turned back to the whiteboard and continued the note.
I smiled at him at my own way, which, and you can be sure of that, is very sarcastic. I walked to the back of the class and sad down. I doodled the whole lesson. I quickly put my notebook and book in my bag with my pencil case and got up whrn the bell rang. I walked through the hallway and into my arts class.
'Good morning, Raven. I hope you're almost done with your drawing?' Miss Brown said.
'Just need some finishing touches.' I said.
'So I can look forward to have it this lesson?' She asked.
'If nothing wrong happens.' I replied.
She smiled and gestured that I could sit. This was the only lesson I sat near the teacher. I usually sit at the very back.
I pulled out my drawing and my pencil case and continued drawing.
'Okay, guys.' Miss Brown started. 'We all know that the exams are in two weeks. You have to give me your drawing a week before. Is there anyone who is already done?'
Nobody held up their hand.
'Anyone who's almost done?'
I held up mine.
'Okay. That's clear then.' She said nodding a little. 'You can continue on your drawings.'
I rolled my eyes and looked back down on my drawing. It was a teenage girl, probably 15 or 16. The drawing was black and white but I knew that the girl originally had light brown hair and emerald green eyes. I didn't know her name. Hell, I didn't even know if she was real. I just saw her a lot in my dreams when I was younger. I put in some more details. Putting in some shadows, lightening up some places. I looked on my wrist watch when I was done. 35 from the 60 minutes were already done. I signed the drawing with my initials before I got up and went to give my drawing to Miss Brown. She looked up when I stood in front of her desk and smiled. I handed her the drawing and she looked at it.
'Very impressive, Raven. May I ask who this is?' She said.
'I will tell you when I know it myself.' I replied.
She looked around like she searched for something. Then she looked back up at me.
'I guess I have nothing for you to do. You can go if you want.' She said.
I smiled. 'See you later, Miss.' I quickly put my pencil case in my bag and got out. I still had 23 minutes before the next lesson, so I went outside to the smoke zone. I skilfully rolled a joint and lit it on. The bell rang when I was just done. I threw the joint on the ground and walked back to school. I walked up the stairs to the second floor, knocked on the door of the English class room and walked in.
'And why are you late, Miss Miller?' Mr. van Dijk asked. He came from the Netherlands. Worst teacher you can get.
'I was smoking. I was done earlier with my last lesson and went to smoke a joint.' I replied.
'Drugs, huh? What are you going to do with your life? Clean toilets? Sex for money?' Mr. van Dijk asked.
'I am sure you would pay me if that ever happened.'
Mr. van Dijk looked angrily at me but calmed down. 'Sit down on your place.'
'I would love to.' I snapped and turned my back to him. I sat down on my place next to Lucy. Well, looks like Lucy is Luke today. He's genderfluid. When I looked at his desk, I saw that he already had written down the note Mr. van Dijk was writing on the whiteboard.
'Still being the badass you are?' He whispered.
'Would I ever stop?' I whispered back.
He smirked and shook his head. He continued writing down the note. I took a piece if paper and wrote something on it.
Hanging out this afternoon?
I folded it into a ball and threw it on his desk. He opened it, read it and wrote something down. Then he folded it and threw it back.
Date with Nick. Tomorrow?
Promised mom to help. And Wednesday arts class.
Yes, badass Raven loves arts. Problems?
Hmm... I've drama on Thursday... How about a sleepover on Friday night? My father won't be home this weekend.
Sure.
Just as I wanted to throw back the paper it got snatched by Mr. van Dijk. He read it aloud and then threw it back on my desk.
'A date, huh? So you finally have a boyfriend, Miss Color?'
'It's Mister Color today, sir.' Luke replied pretty annoyed. He always got furious when people used the wrong pronunciations.
'But I'm sure your registration says that are female.' Mr. van Dijk said.
'That was before I discovered I am genderfluid.' Luke said.
'Genderfluid? That's bullshit. Born a gender, stay a gender. You can't switch your gender like that.' Mr. van Dijk said.
'You can, sir. Never heard of transboys or transgirl? Or genderqueers? And there a lot more kind of them, like intersexuality.' I said.
'All sinners. God made you that way. You have to stay like that.'
'So religion over happiness is what you're trying to tell us?' I asked.
'Religion is happiness.' He replied.
'That's bullshit.' Ayşa said. 'I used to be Islamic. The time I did believe in Allah and hell and heaven, I was worried sick. I wasn't happy at all. It put me into depression. I-I...' She broke down in tears. 'I hated myself! I thought I wasn't good enough. Look at what I've done to myself because of some stupid religion!' She pulled up her sleeves and showed us her wrists. Old scars were still visible.
'It was you who did that to yourself, not your old religion. And you shouldn't have stopped believing in God or Allah or whatever you believed in. Now you just made sure you're going to hell.' Mr. van Dijk said.
'To hell, you said?' I spat. I got up and faced him. 'Well, if she goes, I'm going with her with my panromantic demisexuality.'
'Panromantic? What a joke! So you like pans?' He laughed.
That's it.
I punched his nose. He groaned and grabbed it, leaning on Steven's stool. He put his hand away. There was some blood on it.
'You. Get out! To the principle!' He shouted.
'I would love to!' I shouted back. I grabbed my stuff and my bag and while walking out I put them in my backpack and put it on my shoulder.
I was sitting in the principle's office when the door opened and revealed some others of my English class, with Luke and Ayşa on the front line.
'What are you doing here?' I asked happily suprised.
'We aren't getting lessons from an homo- and transphobic.' Ayşa answered.
I smiled. The 23 of them sat down in a circle.
'I have one thing to say before the principle comes here.' I started. Everyone's attention was on me. 'No one is homo- or transphobic. Because, come on guys, phobic means fear! Are those people afraid of us? No! They discriminate us! They hate us! There is a difference! I say, instead of calling them homo-and transphobics, we start calling them haters, because that's what they do after all!'
'Yes!'
'Indeed'
'Totally true!'
Everyone agreed. Just then the principle came in. He looked shocked when he saw all of us.
'Same reason I guess?'
'Yup.' I said smirking proudly.
He sighed. 'Come in.' He went back in and we all followed him.GO RAVEN!!!
