After the betrayal of King Rinar, Thorne's heart was consumed by an overwhelming desire for power. He could no longer trust anyone, especially not the creatures that had once served him. The bitter sting of Rinar's backstabbing gnawed at him, and with every passing day, Thorne's thoughts grew darker. He vowed that he would never again allow a betrayal to tear down his empire. He would find a way to control everything, even the creatures that were once beyond the reach of mortal men.
It was during this time of turmoil that Thorne stumbled upon something that could ensure his complete dominance—a creature unlike any he had seen before, a creature of unparalleled power and malleability. Thorne had been tracking a pack of these creatures deep in the caverns near his kingdom, creatures that were known for their shapeshifting abilities, their stealth, and their unpredictable nature. They were elusive, fierce, and highly dangerous—perfect for what Thorne needed. The creatures were known for their agility, shifting between small, nimble forms to enormous, terrifying giants when threatened. Among them was one particularly remarkable specimen—Reed.
Reed had been one of the last to fall into Thorne's trap. The creature had been elusive, living in the shadows, but it had made the mistake of showing itself when it thought it was safe. Thorne, always prepared, had set a trap with magic far older and more powerful than anything Reed could have anticipated. With a mix of enchanted nets and binding spells, Thorne captured Reed and forced him into submission. The creature roared in fury, but it was in vain. His wings flapped in the confined space, and his body shifted wildly, but the magic was stronger, keeping him immobilized.
Thorne watched from a distance as Reed struggled, his claws striking against the stone walls, trying to break free. But Thorne had prepared for this. He knew Reed's power, his fury, and he also knew that he could break him. Thorne had studied ancient magics and potions, seeking a way to control even the most rebellious of creatures. When he found a rare tome of forbidden spells hidden away in a forgotten library, he knew exactly what he had to do.
The spell required a blend of magic and alchemy—a potion that would bind Reed's mind to Thorne's will. It was a delicate process, one that could break the creature's spirit if done incorrectly, but Thorne was relentless. With the brew in hand, he approached Reed's cage. The creature's once-proud eyes flickered with both anger and fear. Thorne poured the potion into a vial and held it close to Reed's nose, forcing him to inhale the fumes. The scent was overpowering, strange and bitter, and for a moment, Reed's body trembled as though fighting against the potion. Then, it began.
Reed's eyes glazed over as the magic seeped into his mind, seizing control of his every thought. His wings drooped, his claws no longer striking with defiance. The potion worked quickly, and within moments, Reed's mind was no longer his own. Thorne watched in silent satisfaction as the creature's once-proud posture fell, replaced by a docile submission. His will was gone, replaced with an overwhelming desire to obey.
"You will serve me now, Reed," Thorne commanded, his voice cold and final. "You will follow my orders, and you will never betray me. You will never question me. Do you understand?"
Reed's voice was hollow as he answered, "I... understand..."
It wasn't perfect. The magic that Thorne had used was powerful, but Reed wasn't entirely subdued. The creature still held remnants of his original self, and occasionally, when the bond between them wasn't tight enough, Reed's true nature would break through. His eyes would flash with anger, his body would pulse with a violent energy, and in those moments, he would act aggressively, lashing out as though trying to break free from his bindings. But it was fleeting. The magic was stronger than Reed's will, and in those moments, the potion would take hold again, forcing Reed back into compliance.
