Chapter 1

Hello! I'm Evangaline Ó'Dálaigha, but call me anything other than Eva, and I will personally make sure that you are cut into pieces and dropped in some place undetectable even the Gods of Olympus won't find.

Westover Hall is one of the few places I have come to enjoy. Other than the teachers, the students, and the empty building with no life that surrounds me, of course, everything was a beauty here. Get the irony? Waking up at six in the morning does this to me, I suppose. After travelling for a few years through many boarding schools they put me, Nico and Bianca in, this is the only one where we've been staying for more than a few months.

As I walked into the main hall and plonked myself with a disdainful expression on my face, as he calls it, (while I just say it to be my morning face), I grabbed the apple from his plate instead of going through the trouble of standing in the damned line.

"Really! Again, Eva?", he exclaimed.

"Oh! Come on! It's not as if you actually eat it anyways." I answered.

"Just tell Bianca, that I ate my apple." he told.

Nico hated apples. I mean, he hated fruits in general. Ever since we left the hotel, I came back to my old non-tolerant habits for any sweet things. Unlike everyone else, I'm not able to predict the deaths of Nico and Bianca. But I can still predict every other person's death. Not that I want to of course, but its just weird. But I suppose, I can't really complain when the current year is 2008. I have indeed lost my mind, in the chaos that is my life. I didn't want to tell this to Nico and Bianca as they might think of me to be a psycho.

Bianca came and sat beside Nico. "Did you eat?" she asked me suspiciously. "Of course I did.", I replied with a nonchalant look on my face. "I didn't see you in the queue." she said.

Just when I thought my cover was blown, Nico said, "She came before us. I couldn't see her because she sat in the corner."

"Hmm..." was the only response she gave before she started engaging in a conversation with her classmate Kate.

"Thanks." I told Nico in a way only he could hear.

As we walked through the corridors to go to class, everyone clambered around the notice board.

Complexity of a person intrigues me. I like people who have that maturity in themselves to look past the facades they pose themselves to be and be who they truly are. That's why I like Nico and Bianca. They have that innocence in them which reminded me of who I once was. They remind me of who I could have been had I not been burdened by my past. But I don't think they had it easy either. The subtle vacant looks they give whenever someone mentions their parents shows that.

I take them to be my inspiration, to look at that silver lining even when the dark cloud engulfs you, to see all the darkness in the world and yet choose to be good. I know they haven't seen what's dark but still, they are the one constant in my life that I can depend on.

That being said, our maturity is quite obvious as everyone rushes and clambers around the notice board. Having no sense of decency, no manners, or any resemblance to become humane instead of acting like the apes they were born to be is one of the unnatural qualities I like in this school.

As we neared, we saw the notice:

Clearly, that's what made them all get this...... excited, to say the least. Nico and Bianca's faces told me that they were excited to go. Which means I must tagalong. Uhhhhh!
