Starred Nights

The Sky wouldn't shine,
Let alone gleam,
With the 'stars' of cities.

Sky would be lonely,
In the darkening black,
Lonely in the deepening black,
Its friends, stars, fading and vanishing

Because the 'stars' of cities,
Held the Sky's friends,
And then threw them away.

Sky would be alone,
Until it met the tears,
It would be alone,
Until it met the new stars.

The new stars were exhausted,
The star was human,
And the tear its light

It would shine,
With the sadness and fury in it,
Shine brighter,
Than any other...
