Rose Strong's bedroom was an ordinary teenage room, a big, double bed clad in deep red and purple silk covers and every available inch of visible surface covered in pictures of her and the people she loved. Everything was there, apart from one thing. Her.

She, herself, was stuffing on her black leather boots and jacket. Her usual brown hair and blue eyes where stripped of any colour as she stepped out of the house into the widlerness beyond. Something huge and black raced after her, it was, not a dog, but a panther. Rose's panther. Rose trusted him with her life and it trusted her. The panther was called Ben and Rose had had him by her side since she could remember.

Rose knew where she wanted to go and what she wanted to see that night. A full moon was rising and she was mesmirised by it. At every full moon, Rose and Ben would journey out into the huge field behind her house, sit in the long, sun-dried grass and fall asleep in the magical light.

Her boots made a soft crunching sound as she made her way throught the waist deep grass. Ben happily bounded ahead of her; chasing any pheasent that was unlucky enough to get in his way. It was chilly and Rose's breath made small puffs of steam as she made her way into the middle of the field. She pulled her jacket closer to her slim body and shivvered as her watch flashed 12:00pm. Midnight.

Damon Salvatore was making a slow advance towards the side of the elizabethan house when he saw a tall, lanky girl walk outside. She must have been about 19 and she was incredibally well built. She had long, mousy hair that was stuck up into a messy bun and she wore a dark grey leather jacket, black skinny jeans and leather boots. Damon's mind was then set on one thing; he was going to kill this girl tonight.

He quickly changed direction and moved, with surprising speed, towards where he was crouching minutes before.

Rose first noticed something was different when Ben went suddenly tense and growled into the blackness of night.

'Ben?' She said, her voice calm, 'What's up?'

Ben kept sniffing the air, suddenly, he raced off in one direction. Rose lost sight of him almost immediatly but did her best to sprint after him. Her long legs gave her an advantage, but she couldn't catch him up or even make him out in the field at all.

'Ben! Urgh, that stupid cat!' She said and sank down into the grass. Well, at least no one will find me in here if anyone is sneaking around She thought. But she couldn't have been more wrong. Rose wondered when Ben would be coming back. The full moon was almost completly risen over the forest that outlined part of the field. It was so beautiful and big. Rose forgot all of her worries and felt conforted by it, she soon fell into a light sleep. But not for long.
