Chapter 8

A few days later, Sasuke approaches Naruto once again.

"I want to make a Deal with you, Naruto." Sasuke says suddenly as Naruto is practicing his Wind Magic, shocking him to the point that he misfires a wind blade, cutting the wrong tree down.

"You want to do what!?" Naruto asks, thoroughly taken off-guard.

"I want to make a Deal." Sasuke repeats. "Specifically, for my soul."

Naruto hums in thought. "And what, exactly, do you want in exchange?" He questions.

"I want the ability to make Deals of my own." Sasuke explains. "Essentially, in exchange for me giving you my soul, I will gain the ability to draw on your power, solely to make Deals with other people."

Naruto frowns in contemplation(Sasuke didn't know that he could do that), before snapping his fingers and summoning his mic-staff. "Let's go ask dad if that's even possible. It should be, but he knows more about Deals than I do, so he might know of something that prevents it from being possible." He says, before grabbing Sasuke's shoulder and dragging him into the shadows with him.

"I can't think of any reason that wouldn't work." Alastor says after Naruto and Sasuke ask him. "I've never heard of it being done before, but I'm not aware of any Dealing limitations that would prevent it."

Naruto and Sasuke glance at each other, before shaking hands.

That night, during dinner, Tazuna's grandson decides to say something stupid.

"I don't know why you're trying so hard, you're all gonna die anyway." The boy says suddenly, causing the ninjas, and Alastor, to look at him with raised eyebrows. "There's no such thing as a hero, and everyone who tries to be one just ends up dead. Gato's too strong, nobody can beat him."

Alastor barks out a laugh. "My dear child, you have no idea how weak Gato is. He is a pathetic, worm of a man, who hides behind those with actual strength of their own as they do his bidding. I assure you, such a creature is far too weak to even kill Sakura, should she go all out, let alone Naruto and myself." He says, unbothered by Inari's underestimation of them all.

Inari scoffs. "Easy for you to say, all you've ever known is that cushy village you live in. You have no idea what it's like to suffer like us!"

Every Konoha resident but Sakura and Kakashi laughs at this.

"Kid, the only people on our team who don't know what it's like to suffer are me and Sakura." Naruto says, amused. "And even then, the only reason that I don't is because dad goes out of his way to prevent me from suffering at the hands of the residents of our so-called 'cushy village' as punishment for a crime I did not commit, something that happened on the night I was born."

"Indeed!" Alastor says. "Yakumo was tortured by her own power, and was betrayed by the woman who was the closest thing anyone has ever been to being her mother. Fuu grew up in an entirely separate village, where she was tortured by the inhabitants. Sasuke's brother slaughtered his entire clan/family in one night, then forced him to watch him do it over and over again while trapped in his own mind. Everyone Kakashi has ever loved died a tragic death. And the less said about my own suffering, the better." He explains.

Inari huffs, before turning around and storming off.

Naruto sighs, before standing up from his seat. "Well, I've officially lost my appetite." He says. "I'm gonna go train some more."

"Don't overdo it!" Alastor calls after him as he leaves, with Naruto simply giving a thumbs up.

Naruto pants in exhaustion as he allows his chakra construct to disappear, before he suddenly hears someone's heartbeat behind him, causing him to turn his head backwards to check who it is.

The girl standing there flinches at the sight of Naruto's head doing a full 180 without his body moving, apparently spooked by it.

"Sorry, I didn't notice you before." Naruto says as he turns his body to match his head. "Is there something you need?"
