"Hello Mario" Mario did not respond. Mario had been dead for weeks. Luigi had been talking to his brother's lifeless, rotting corpse for weeks. Luigi blocked out the traumatic memory of his death. Luigi had killed Mario on accident. Luigi had accidentally dropped a block of concrete on Mario's head during the construction of their guest house. The impact killed him instantly. Luigi brought the body inside and boarded up the windows and doors. He blocked all access to the outside world so nobody would ever find out what happened. The bills went unpaid, the utilities were cut, Mario was rotting. Luigi, now rightfully traumatized, retreated into his mind where all was well. To him, life continued as normal. But on the outside he looked like a madman, talking to people who weren't there and having conversations with a corpse. He had gone completely insane. Eventually the police forced their way in and, given the state of Luigi, sent him to a mental institution. While at the institution, the police pieced together what had happened to Mario and Luigi. Given the nature of Mario's death Luigi wasn't charged, but he was kept in the institution. After 5 years he was released, though he was nothing more than a caricature of who he used to be. He became extremely depressed as he blamed himself for Mario's death. He almost ended it all, however an old friend called just before he pulled the trigger. It was Wario, he felt sorry for Luigi wanted to comfort him. Luigi broke down over the phone, everything came out at once. All the trauma and years of guilt. He told Wario what he was doing. Wario told him to wait just a bit longer. Wario arrived shortly after, with a pack of beer in his truck. He convinced Luigi not to go through with it. Wario drove Luigi to the lake and they sat down on the dock with a beer. Wario told him "it was an accident, buddy. Don't blame yourself. You see that star up there? That's Mario. He's watching over you, protecting you. He isn't mad at you. He wants to see you live a happy life, he wants to be proud of you. Don't you want to be proud of you?". Wario drove Luigi to his house and let him sleep in the guest bedroom. The next day, Wario had made Luigi pancakes for breakfast. He took Luigi with him to his therapist. When she learned what Luigi had gone through, she immediately got him his own therapist. Luigi's therapist prescribed him antidepressants and a therapy appointment on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. He was diagnosed with PTSD. She helped Luigi realize that he wasn't to blame and helped him come to terms with it. After a few months, Luigi was doing a lot better. He started going out and socializing, he and Wario started dating, and he started visiting Mario's grave every Thursday. Although he was still traumatized and couldn't be left alone for more than 2 hours, for the first time since the accident he felt happy. Although, everytime he would pass a construction site he'd hear Mario's screams in his head. After about one year, he started to hear things at Mario's grave. At first he just thought it was the gardener, but eventually he started to hear voices. Mario's voice. Mario was talking to him from his grave. Luigi was understandably freaked out, but Mario reassured him he had no ill intentions. Mario showed himself to Luigi, he was now a ghost. He told Luigi he was proud of him and that he didn't resent him. He understood it was an accident. From then on, every Thursday the brothers would have lunch at the cemetery and they'd talk about what had been going on recently in their lives. Mario told Luigi about the afterlife and Luigi told Mario about his relationship with Wario. He told Mario he had adopted a kid with Wario and that he was a father now. Mario was ecstatic. He told Luigi to bring his son to the graveyard the next day. After his therapy on Friday, Luigi and his son, Daniel, went to visit Mario. Daniel and Mario got along really well as they both shared an interest in history. Ten years goes by and Luigi catches an illness known as "Cerobotin". Despite the doctors best efforts, he unfortunately passes away due to the virus. He was buried next to Mario. He and Mario are then reunited in the afterlife and Mario shows him around and introduces him to his friends. Wario and Daniel visit their graves every Thursday, just as Luigi did, and they talk about their lives. Mario discovers a way for Wario and Daniel to visit the afterlife anytime they wish without having to die. They install the portal in the basement of their house and visit Mario and Luigi regularly. Eventually both Wario and Daniel pass away in a tragic car accident. They are then reunited with Luigi and Mario. They then live happily ever after in the afterlife.
