Aria
I woke up to the pleasant smell of fresh bacon lingering around the house. I sit up from my bed, stretching to try and fully wake up. My mom usually makes breakfast Saturday mornings, so the smell of food wasn't surprising to wake up to. I get out of bed, shuffling over to my bathroom to see what damage I had to fix on myself.
"Hectic, as always." I say under my breath as I observe myself in the mirror.
I take no time to get myself freshened up and changed to go downstairs. I put on a pair of my ripped jeans, a fitted crop top, and converse before I head out of my room. For some reason, the house seemed a lot more quiet than usual. The only sound that filled the house was the sizzling of bacon. It was almost eerie.
As I head down the stairs, he smell was now burnt instead of that fresh scent. "Mom?" I call out once I get to the last step of the stairs.
No answer.
I slowly walk over to the kitchen, expecting to see my mom but nobody was there. The bacon was left unattended with smoke forming around the pan. I quickly run over to the bacon, taking the pan and transferring it over to the other side of the stove and turning off the fire.
"What the hell?!" I take one of the hand towels to fan out the smoke as I coughed.
I looked around the kitchen, leaning over to peek down the hallway to see if anyone was in the living room. "Mom! Dad!" I call out. No response. I walk over to the window in the kitchen to open it so the smoke can clear out.
"Whoever was cooking burned the bacon!" I say, still waving the towel around.
Alright, now I'm getting irritated.
I toss the towel on the counter and start walking over to the living room. "Seriously, you guys are lucky I caught it. The house could've burned-" I tail off in my sentence once I realize nobody was in the living room either.
However, the sliding door to the backyard was shattered. My heart started beating faster. Did someone break in?
I back away from the scene, going back into the kitchen. I start to pick up my pace as I rush over to the stairs to see if anyone was in their rooms. There's no way they would've left me in my room if there was an intruder, right?
In the process of going up the stairs, I pull out my phone to call the cops but it doesn't go through. "What??" I say frustratedly as I look down at my phone. I tried again but the same thing happened.
After finding nobody in my parent's room, I run into my brother's room.
"Jake." I try not to be too loud as I swing his door open. Thankfully, I found him soundly asleep in his bed.
I sigh with relief and shut the door behind me. I run over to him, shaking him awake. "Jake, wake up!" I yell quietly.
He quickly wakes up from my rapid movements. He sits up with an annoyed look. "Bro, what the fuck?" He groans, rubbing his eyes to fully wake up.
I motion him to be quiet. "I think someone broke in." I say with fear in my eyes. "I can't find mom and dad."
Jake suddenly locked in once I told him the situation. His eyes widened from my words. "What do you mean?" He asks as he hops out of bed, quickly putting on some clothes and shoes.
"The backyard door is broken and bacon was burning in the kitchen." I inform him, looking to him for what we should do.
"Alright." He nods his head as he thought to himself. "You stay here and call the cops." Jake motions with his hands as he makes his way over to the door.
