Finally Got The Name Right

After a few days. We traversed through the old ventilation system that kept the Grey from the Undercity. I grew tired of wearing a mask all the time, but finally, we were walking through a, so far, untouched pipeline without our masks. That is until we see a person strapped to the bottom fin of a fan. It's just enough to be suffocating on the Grey.

Steb was first to run to him, and we followed.

Once we got close, these dolls on strings fell down, and it had all of us on there. Except for me. With us being gutted and strung up. Maddie gasped and stumbled backward into my chest

----------------------------------------------

After getting that henchman known as Heenot away from the gas and getting him a mask, he desperately breathed from. I turned and saw Maddie still staring at the dolls.

I walk next to her and place my hand on her opposite shoulder. She looked at me, and she was visibly shaken.

"Hey. You're not gonna end up like that."

"I know it's just..." She looks back up at them.

"Hey." I said sternly and made her look at me. "I won't let you be gutted like a fish. Okay?"

"O-okay. Just... freaked out from thinking about it."

"I can tell... come in. Relax. I'll protect you."

Her stiff shoulders softened, and she smiled.

"Hm, that makes me feel better."

"Good."

Loris comes to the other side of Maddie and comforts her, too. He's a good guy.

"Lar."

"Hm?" I turn around to see Vi looking at me. "What?"

"Can I talk to you for a minute?"

I nod and follow her down a neighboring pipe. Far enough, so our conversation won't echo to our group.

We stand on opposite walls on these wide steps. Her gauntlets drop with steam jetting out of them and thud harshly into the concrete. I wrap my sword around my waist and hook it to its end piece. I wipe a stand of hair from my forehead to the back of my ponytail and cross my arms.

I look at her and can obviously see she's deep in thought. She sighs and shakes her head. She looks up at me and sighs, and shakes her head once more. Something she did when deciding to speak her mind.

"I think we should cut the others loose."

I looked wide-eyed, and my mouth opened just a bit before I closed it and swallowed, preparing to speak but was cut off.

"Look, if that Heenot idiot is telling the truth, Jinx is gonna have surprises in store for us."

"But isn't that what we're here for? To get Jinx?"

"They don't know her like we do, besides. She'll smell their nerves a molt away and find a way to use them against us. Tell me I'm wrong."

I was silent for a bit but said.

"Even Caitlyn?"

"She won't leave no matter what. Jinx killed her mother."

"Yeah. So, just us three going alone?"

"Yeah."

"But Vi. Are you sure you can -"

"My sister is gone. Theirs only Jinx now. It has to end. I'm so sorry for dragging you in between us. I'm sorry I'm making you choose but please just... Everyone in my life has changed. Promise me you won't change." Her lips quivers and she closes her eyes. Very little tears prick at her eyes.
