Lee Marie - two years old
~
Two years later, Jimin felt almost like his old self again. Life had returned to the rhythms he knew so well—recording music, practicing choreography, laughing with the members over inside jokes that had only grown funnier over the years. But amidst all of it, there was a new patience within him, a new understanding that he was waiting for something more than just their next tour. He hadn't thought much about his application to the adoption agency, not sure if he would even be considered. Still, the thought of a child, of a daughter he could care for, kept him hopeful.
One day, while in the studio working on a new track with Yoongi and Namjoon, his phone buzzed in his pocket. Glancing at the screen, he felt his heart skip a beat when he saw the agency's name displayed. Nervously, he excused himself and stepped out into the hallway, his hand shaking as he answered.
"Hello, this is Park Jimin."
"Hello, Mr. Park," a gentle voice greeted him on the other end. "I'm calling from the adoption agency. I wanted to check in to see if you were still interested in adoption?"
His breath caught as a thrill ran through him. "Yes," he answered, trying to keep his voice steady. "Yes, I am."
"Wonderful." The voice softened. "We have a little girl we think you'd love to meet. Her name is Lee Marie. She's two years old, and she's been with us for almost a year."
Jimin's heart filled with a protective warmth at the thought of her. "I'd love to meet her," he managed, barely containing his excitement.
The woman hesitated, her tone turning solemn. "Before you do, there's something you should know. Marie has been through a difficult time. She was found in a very unsafe situation, and as a result, she's... well, she's blind in one eye. She needs someone who can offer her a lot of love and stability. Someone who can help her heal."
Jimin's chest ached as he listened, his mind filling with an overwhelming desire to care for this little girl, to give her everything she'd been denied. "Thank you for telling me," he said, his voice unwavering. "I'd still love to meet her."
The following week, Jimin arrived at the agency, his heart pounding in anticipation. He took a steadying breath, letting the reality of the moment sink in. The director led him down a hallway to a small, brightly coloured playroom.
"Marie, someone is here to see you," the director said, her voice gentle and warm. The little girl sat in the center of the room, her back to him, playing with a set of blocks.
Jimin stepped forward, unsure if his presence would startle her. He crouched down a few feet away, watching her delicate fingers move over the blocks, slowly stacking one on top of another. He couldn't help but smile at her quiet concentration.
"Hi, Marie-ah," he said softly. He noticed her left eye holding a cloudy film that revealed her blindness in that eye.
She turned her head at the sound of his voice, her one good eye studying him curiously. She had the sweetest, roundest cheeks, and a tiny nose that scrunched up as she considered him. Her hair was long, framing her face in soft wisps, and Jimin's heart ached to reach out and hold her.
