Sometimes, the past doesn’t stay buried. It claws its way back to the surface, determined to remind you of the sins that shaped you. But what if the sins aren’t yours?

Days turned into weeks, and Lavender and Alex found themselves entangled in a web of dark secrets, each one slowly unraveling the truth Alex had tried so hard to bury. Haunted by shadows from the past, they were now forced to confront the repercussions that Alex’s father, Richard, had left behind—echoes of unfinished deeds that had started to seep into their present.
Since that ominous night, they hadn’t been able to find peace. Shadows lurked in the corners of every room, and a strange chill had settled over their home, an invisible presence they could feel but not see. Lavender could sense Alex’s unease growing, but he hadn’t spoken openly about what haunted him. However, she knew something was coming—something that threatened to tear apart everything they had built together.
Late one evening, as they sat together, Lavender reached out, her voice soft yet resolute. “Alex… I know you’re trying to protect me, but I need to understand. We need to understand what's happening, or it’ll only get worse.”
He looked away, his jaw clenched. Finally, he sighed, a heavy, resigned sound that seemed to release a part of the burden he carried. "Lavender… my father’s dealings went deeper than I ever realized. He wasn’t just ruthless in business; he was merciless in other ways. He made pacts—commitments that went far beyond any legal agreements.”
She watched him closely, sensing the weight of what he was about to reveal with her.
“It wasn’t just wealth or power he pursued,” he continued, his voice growing fainter, as if he were speaking to himself as much as to her. “He sought control, and he was willing to pay any price for it, even if that meant…” He faltered, his gaze darkening. “…even if that meant sacrificing what couldn’t be seen.”
Lavender’s eyes widened. “What do you mean?”
“He left promises unfulfilled, Lavender,” Alex murmured. “Promises to people—people who were drawn into his schemes and left to deal with the fallout. But it wasn’t just people. He bargained in a way that… that transcended the physical world.”
Her heart thudded in her chest, and she realized how deep-rooted the darkness was. “Are you saying… your family is haunted?”
Alex nodded slowly, the shadows on his face deepening. “It’s not just a haunting, Lavender. It’s a consequence—a warning that he left behind for me, whether he meant to or not.”
---
With a renewed sense of determination, they dove back into Richard’s hidden past, digging through documents, old journals, anything that could shed light on what he had done. As they worked, pieces of the story came together. The calls Alex had been receiving weren’t random—they were from people connected to his father’s deeds. People who had suffered, lost, or been hurt by Richard’s ruthlessness, mercilessness.
As the truth emerged, Lavender and Alex grew more certain: this was no ordinary haunting. It was a reckoning—a manifestation of the betrayal and loss Richard had sown in so many lives. And Alex, as his son, was the inheritor of that debt and his deeds..
“Lavender…” he said one evening, his voice breaking slightly. “All this time, I tried to escape his shadow, to be different. But now it feels like I’m paying for his sins as if his sins are hereditary and I'm the one now, it's my turn now ..
She took his hands in hers, her gaze unwavering. “We’ll find a way through this, Alex. Together. No one deserves to bear this alone.”
