It was supposed to be forever. High school sweethearts, inseparable for four years, Nari and Hyunjin had promised each other a future-until the day Hyunjin's dream called him away. Selected as a trainee for JYP, he left without a word, a simple note...
Hyunjin watched Nari as she sat there, trying to keep her emotions in check, though her hurt was evident in every tense line of her body. He’d never felt so helpless. She was right here in front of him, yet he felt miles away from truly understanding the extent of her pain.
As he looked into her tear-stained eyes, he longed to hold her, to pull her close until the anger and sorrow melted away. It was instinctive—the urge to protect her, to make her feel safe again. But a small voice in the back of his mind reminded him that his touch wouldn’t fix this. Her hurt ran too deep, her trust too shattered for something so simple to heal what he had broken.
Still, his hands itched to reach for her, to somehow bridge the distance between them. He leaned in slightly, voice soft and pleading, “Nari… just let me hold you, please. Maybe… maybe we can find comfort in each other. Maybe I can finally prove to you that I’m here.”
She looked at him, her gaze wavering. It was as if she, too, was fighting an internal battle—one between the lingering love that still tied her to him and the heartache that reminded her of all he had put her through. Finally, she shook her head, her voice barely audible.
“Hyunjin, you can’t just make this go away. No matter how much I want to, I can’t forget the pain. I can’t let go so easily.”
The reality of her words hit him, the truth sinking into his bones. He had hoped that maybe, somehow, they could find solace in each other’s arms. But he knew now that his guilt, his regret, was something he had to face without asking her to carry it for him. He had to prove his remorse, his devotion, in a way that respected the depth of her pain.
“Nari,” he whispered, a newfound resolve in his voice. “I understand. I’ll be here, no matter how long it takes. And even if you can’t forgive me… I’ll still be here. For you.”
With those words, he decided that he would not force anything. She deserved the time and space to heal, and he would be there, waiting for her, hoping that one day she might trust him again.
