I Almost Had Her

Alesha

I drove over those damn mountains for thirty minutes before I got sick on the side of the road and then I continued driving. I ate some crackers I found in the car and drove another 10 minutes and found the town of Ouray and decided to sleep in a hotel there. I fell asleep immediately and had the best dream I ever had.

He burst through the door to the hotel room with tears streaming down his face. "Jake." I whispered and I held him in my arms "I won't leave ever again." I said "please Alesha, I love you too much to let you go again." "We're okay Jake I'm here." And then the scene changed he laid asleep in the blue prius. And I sat next to him "Jacob?" I shook his shoulder. He woke up instantly "Alesha!" He tried to hug me but I felt nothing and his arms slipped into air. "Jacob please come find me!" I cried and he started sobbing "where are you?" He wailed "I'm going to montrose! Whatever you do Jacob don't stop in Silverton!" "No Alesha don't go!!" " please Jake! I'm in the river Forrest!" He sobbed "no baby don't go!"

And I woke up sobbing I screamed when a figure loomed over me. I grabbed my knife and stabbed randomly and my attacker screamed and fell to the floor. I switched on the lights and found a dark haired boy laying on the floor clutching his left arm. He looked up at me he looked like he was only 6 years old and he was crying..

"Oh honey!" I cried and I grabbed a roll of toilet paper and pressed it to the cut on his arm. Thankfully he had stopped crying and was looking at me with pitiful eyes. "Whats your name little one?" I asked "my name is Kota" he said I smiled "I'm so sorry Kota. You scared me I thought you were one of them." He smiled at me "that's what I thought you were too."

The rest of the night I slept with Kota by my side and lord the little boy could snuggle. But at least I had a companion.

In the morning I was awoken by Kota shaking my shoulder. "Hey Alesha?" I moaned sleepily "five more minutes Jake." And went back to sleep until he shook me harder "I'm not Jake I'm Kota!" And that's when I woke up. And I remembered that Jake wasn't staying with me. And I began to cry

"Alesha?" Kota asked but I only cried harder "I want Jacob!" I sobbed like a two year old "it's okay Alesha, he's on his way he told me." And I looked at him he had calmed me down and I stopped crying. And held his hand. "Who's Jacob?" He asked me "he's my person." He looked at me "is Jacob your boyfriend?" I shook my head. "He's the best person in the entire world. And I want him here so badly."

"It's okay Alesha. He's coming to find us." I shook my head "he hates me." "No!" He shouted "I heard his voice, he says he's going to find the river Forrest." And that's when I turned to him and I realized in my dream that's what I told Jacob in my dream.

I looked at little Kota I could take him with me.. it looked like I had to. The little boy had attached himself to me. "Alright Kota. Where's your mama?" He looked at me with tears in his eyes "She died." And my heart broke for him "mine too." I wrapped him in a hug "is there anyone that takes care of you?" I asked him he nodded "show me." I said and little Kota led me out of the hotel and onto the street where a boy about 20 grabbed him out of my arms "Alesha!" He cried and the boy glared at me "just who the hell are you? And what are you doing with my son?"

"I'm so sorry, I was staying at the hotel and I saw him standing over me." He looked at Kota "what did I say about wandering off!" "I'm so sorry sir I didn't mean to take your son." I let a few tears escape my eyes he grunted "sorry for yelling at you sweet pea, he scared me ya know?" "It's alright." He looked at me "where are you headed?" "Montrose." He nodded "good place that, do you have a companion?" I nodded "he's on his way. We had a fight but I hope he comes through for me." The boy nodded "whats his name?" "Jacob." He nods curtly "I will keep watch, what's he driving?" "A blue prius last time I knew." He nods again and tells me "you had better get on your way sweet pea, I will keep watch for Jacob and send him to montrose, I'm guessing you're headed to the black canyon." I shook my head "tell Jake that I'm staying in the uncompagre national Forrest." "I will."

I thanked him and continued down the road I knew everything was going to be okay. I reached montrose without seeing a single zombie which was weird because they were everywhere I thought. There would probably be more in town. But there weren't I shrugged and headed up and onto less known access point called Dave wood road.

Jacob

I had a torturous dream that Alesha had come back to me but it was only a dream. But she did tell me a few details I needed to know. She was staying in the river Forrest? What the hell does that even mean? And she also said don't stop in Silverton. What could possibly be in Silverton? But in any case even if it was a dream I consider that a warning and I will steer clear of Silverton.

I drove for two hours straight until I reached a small town called oo ray I think it's pronounced. Then a man ran in front of my car "wait! I have a message from her!" I stopped the car "from Alesha?" "Yes!" He panted "she's staying in the uncompagre national Forrest!" "Did she say where?" "She mumbled something about a David road?" He said I nodded curtly and then there was a little boy standing in front of the hood.

"Are you Jake?" The little one asked I nodded "I met Alesha. She misses you so bad, she cried this morning and then in her sleep she says she loves you." And suddenly I couldn't breathe. "I have to go." I said and gunned the engine down the road.
