Chapter 22: Ambush on Thanos

Directly after the Snap, Y/N, along with Tony, Steve, Wanda, Nebula, James Rhodes, Natasha Romanoff and Bruce Banner, returned to the Avengers Compound. Having discovered the Transmitter Pager Nick Fury had activated prior to his death, the Avengers bypassed the pager's battery in order for it to continue to send out its signal. The pager turns off. In another room, The Avengers are dealing with the consequences of the failed counterattack against Thanos that led to the decimation process as they return to the New Avengers Headquarters. On the computer, the numbers continue to rise as the global death toll reaches 3.2 billion.

Steve: This is a nightmare.

Natasha: I've had better nightmares.

Rhodey walks in.

Rhodey: Hey. So that thing just stopped doing whatever the hell it was doing.

Rhodey, Y/N, Romanoff, and Rogers head to the chamber housing the transmitter device, where Bruce Banner is analyzing it.

Natasha: What have we got?

Bruce: Whatever the signal is sending, it finally creeped off.

Steve: I thought we bypassed the battery.

Rhodey: We did. It's still plugged in, it just... it just stopped.

Steve: Reboot and send the signal again.

Banner: We don't even know what this is.

Natasha: Fury did. Just do it, please. You tell me the second you get a signal. I want to know who's on the other end of that thing.

As Romanoff turns around, she finds herself face to face with Carol Danvers.

Carol: Where's Fury?

Y/N: He's dead. I'm sorry.

The heroes are sitting in a living room area. Tony is sitting at a table, getting blood for healing. A holographic casualty report lists the names and faces of those lost to the Decimation.

Rhodey: It's been 23 days since Thanos came to Earth.

Natasha: World governments are in pieces. The parts that are still working are trying to take a census. And it looks like he did... he did exactly what he said he was gonna do. Thanos wiped out fifty percent, of all living creatures.

Tony: Where is he now? Where?

Steve: We don't know. He just opened a portal and walked through.

A sullen-looking Thor is sitting on a bench, seemingly deep in thought.

Tony: What's wrong with him?

Rocket: Oh, he's pissed. He thinks he failed. Which of course he did, but you know there's a lot of that's going around, ain't there?

Tony: Honestly, until this exact second, I literally thought you were a Build-A-Bear.

Rocket: Maybe I am.

Steve: We've been hunting Thanos for three weeks now. Deep Space scans, and satellites, and we got nothing. Tony, you and Y/N fought him.

Tony: Who told you that? We didn't fight him. No, he wiped my face with a planet while the Bleecker Street Magician gave away the store. That's what happened. There was no fight.

Steve: Okay.

Y/N: He was unbeatable, that all there was too it.

Steve: Did he give you any clues, any coordinates, anything?

Tony: Pfft! I saw this coming a few years back. I had a vision. I didn't wanna believe it. Thought I was dreaming.

Steve: Tony, I'm gonna need you to focus.
