“Poppet, get the fuck up, come on.” I was being roughly shaken, the russian accent heavier with frustration. I was awake at this point but I pretended to be asleep, which wasn't hard because I felt like I couldn't move my body. There was a primal growl that erupted out of him, before he reached out with a hand and pressed a finger to my cheek. “ I know you're awake, don't test me.”

I opened my eyes and glared at him, lashing my power out at him in annoyance. He seemed to just absorb it, sucking it in like you would a blast of air. He let out a purr as the power slipped into him, it made me wonder why I couldn't seem to hurt him with my ability. “ Get up, we have a flight to catch.” He muttered as he stepped back from me. I shook my head but stood up from the chair, knowing I had no choice since I signed the paper.

There was barely any time to breathe before we were in the airport, the plane we had boarded was surprisingly ordinary. that was the thing, this man was one of money and power i thought for sure we'd be on a private jet. I still had no idea where we were rushing off to in such a hurry, there was nothing on the ticket that gave it away.

Vlad seemed to be uncomfortable, which was given away by the shuffling back and forth. It was funny because it was almost too human for a vampire of his stature, but there he was moving from side to side. I decided to take advantage of the window he so graciously gave me, staring out at the concrete of the Pennsylvania airport.

I snickered to myself thinking that we were going to transylvania to the dracula's castle that was known to be the palace of vampires, but unfortunately in my research that was all a hoax. there was no clear evidence the original Vlad the impaler even lived there, but he also wasn't a vampire. He was just a piece of shit that liked staking people, and eating lunches in the courtyard of dead bodies.

I shook off my thoughts of the historical facts that were easily found on the internet. They wouldn't help me here because I've reached a new level of wanting to learn the unusual history of my circumstance. I had only learned of vampires a few years ago, after my attack and the awakening of my powers. then finding a real one was almost impossible.

The man next to me, my new master, was one of the hardest ones to find. however as luck may have it i found him first, i stalked him for a few days. What I had hoped for was not the case, he never went into a coffin, or turned into a bat. He mainly focused on paperwork and boring desk job shit, which he definitely has people for.

That was the problem with modern day vampires, they seem normal on the surface, but when you look a little closer they  are off. I waited months to finally end up in the office chair that sealed my fate, but in the end I knew that it wasn't going to be simple. I had approached him looking for answers to why I had the abilities I did, and how to reverse them or learn how to harness them.

Vlad was shocked to see an outwardly human woman have the powers of a master vampire who was over a few hundred centuries old, and i myself was shocked when he shared that information with me. he told me we could make a deal because he needed to study the powers i possess and see what kind of freak of nature i was.

I shook my head, clearing the memories out of my head. Getting too deep in my thoughts meant danger to the other passengers on the plane. I had to focus on keeping control over the inconvenient fire ability I possessed, when I drifted into thought it caused casualties. I had turned into a murderer for not knowing how to use my gift, innocent people getting crossed in the crossfire.

“Where to?” I asked. The silence of the plane was astounding, hardly any of the passengers spoke to each other. I felt Vlads eyes on the back of my head, and the energy shifted slightly as he finally got comfortable.

“There is some business I have to attend to at one of my local companies in France, while we are there I will give you some of the answers you're looking for. However, I need you to do something for me that I can't discuss at this moment. May I?”

Vlad took my hand into his, and I felt a presence in the back of my mind. it was unsettling and i wondered if that's how it felt when i entered into other people's minds. my arm hairs started to stand straight as his presence made its way into the front of my mind. i tried to pull my hand away but he tightened his grip, slight pain began to form as my bones threatened to give way to the force.

“I need you to read one of my employees, a man known as Jeremy Welsh. an american transfer, rumor has it he's been trading information with some of my competitors. If that's true, I need to take care of the pest that threatens to ruin what I've built.” Vlad spoke the instructions directly into my brain. It felt like a thought I had no control of, like an intrusive thought.

I nodded once and fixed my gaze back to the window next to me, painfully aware that his hand was still on mine. i tried to rein in my emotions, being afraid of anything wasn't in my resume. I had always been a wild card, jumping out of planes and wrestling gators. Fear was something that went away after the attack, causing me to not like the sinking feeling that was slowly building in my gut.
