“Poppet.” Vladimirs voice called me back from the swirling memory. I hadn't realized that my breathing had turned frantic and my hands had tightly balled around the end of the cashmere sweater that I had been wearing. I swallowed hard, steeling myself and swearing off the cursed memory. I had thought I was over the nightmares that haunted me while I was awake, and came to peace with the new way of things.
“We’re here.” That was what I needed to fully settle, I jumped out of the car before Vlad did. I walked around the car as Vlad exited. Looking at the tall Victorian looking building that stood before me, I was in awe of the beauty of the structure. It was made from dark brick, with large bay windows surrounding the area. The wood was stained a bright red, and the front door was arched and looked old.
It was at that point I understood the one thing that made my cheeks red, I had zero idea what Vad did as a job. I knew by my research that he was known as the wealthiest man alive, and the fact he worked astounded me. He had been featured on the cover of Forbes as the most attractive billionaire, and his reputation as a playboy made Hugh Hefner blush. This man was famous for being untouchable and a man that never settled down.
Women had always tried and failed to be the ones to take his play boy status from him, but every time they would run crying from the man who had been called heartless by the others before them. Women were weird like that, always wanting something they can't have. Even the magazines didn't know what his actual job was, just that he was some big shot CEO with a winning streak with the ladies.
“When we go in, remember your job. Jeremy’s office is on the top floor, and be careful, he isn't human.” Vlad gripped my shoulders and forced me to look at him. “Jeremy is a Ghoul, a living spirit. He can kill you just by a single hit. His mind isn't going to be easy to break into, and his guard is going to be up. Everyone around here doesn't like when I show up, it only ever means someones going to be terminated.”
I rolled my eyes, giving him a sly smirk. “Aww, you care about me.” I batted my eyelashes and curled my hair around my fingers. Vladimir didn't look amused, but he shook his head. “I want to be the one to break my toys.” he winked at me and entered the building.
