Stumbling downstairs, I found my way to the kitchen, heading straight for the alcohol cabinet, the bottles I had restocked after rescuing Lando from the mud completely finished. Assistants already filled the chamber, preparing breakfast, working around me as I searched different cupboards, hoping to find something, anything.
"Mr Facundo, you're up early!" Annamaria exclaimed, entering the kitchen.
I didn't pay much attention to the statement, "Do we have any bourbon? Whiskey? Gin?"
"Uh..." The cameriera's brows knit together, "We have cooking wine in the cellar."
Briefly, I debated the offer, unsure if I wanted the headache that usually came with wine. Except, I was already nodding my head, Annamaria sending an assistant to fetch a bottle.
"That reminds me," I stepped towards the back door. "There won't be a need for dinner tonight?"
"No worries, mr, may I ask how come?"
"We're going out to town."
"Dancing?"
"That's right." I grinned.
It was our last night at the villa, and we'd agreed to spend it in a club, drinking until the early morning, where we'd then catch my private jet to Monaco.
"What about some snacks for when you return? Kept in the fridge?"
"Good idea. We would appreciate that." I stood upright, arms extending as an assistant passed over a bottle of white wine. "Thank you, miss."
Pivoting, I stepped out onto the veranda, examining the label on the wine. Cheap and Chilean, my least favourite kind to drink plain. I shrugged, cracking open the cap and taking a sip.
Better than nothing.
I went to take another sip, only to stop as I regarded the back garden, recognising I wasn't alone; someone else, sat on the stone steps that led to the pool.
Alex.
"Can I?"
Her stare darted over her shoulder, eyes softening in recognition, "Of course."
I took a seat on the step next to her, the cold surface sending a shiver through my shorts. Over the last few days, we'd spent little time together, unless Charles was present in the room. Nevertheless, we'd formed our own sort of friendship, solidified by polite gestures and shared laughs.
"Do you mind?" I gestured to the carton of cigarettes I'd revealed from my pocket.
She shook her head. Lighting one, I blew smoke over my shoulder, washing down the taste with a gulp of wine.
"What's so interesting?" I asked genuinely.
"Hmm?"
"You're here every morning."
She looked down at her lap, not expecting me to have noticed. Little did she know how much I found myself awake at the same hour, except instead of finding my way outside, I found myself curled up in my bathroom.
