Marcus has always had a bit of a temper for as long as I can remember. Almost to the point that I start to worry about him throwing things and punching walls. I don't think that Asher should've let him out of the house today, I mean, the dude's ears might've well have been cartoon-steaming as he walked out that door.
"You're really gonna let that vampire," Marcus used that word like it was a slur, "get away with what he did to Tedrose?" Marcus is- or is attempting to rip Asher a new one. It isn't working very well, but I can hear them from the inside door of the mudroom- and I can see Marcus' wild gestures from my little windowed nook, "I know where the undead bastard is and you can't stop me." Asher lets out a chilling, oddly unserious chuckle,
"Oh, dear mortal. Vampires aren't undead. In fact they might be more alive than a mere human- the constant new blood in their circulation prompts their bodies to become much more... endearing." I can't believe Asher just said that. What? Is he infatuated with the damn blood-suckers? Also, all this is just going to piss Marcus off- but I'm sure Asher knew that.
But Asher isn't intimidated by Marcus... right. And I'm not sure he cared about his safety much either. Asher is... he definitely isn't very careful with anyone he isn't sworn to protect or has a sexual interest in. I watch Marcus' gestures become more and more defeated and melancholy, as if he's actively coming to that conclusion that Asher genuinely doesn't care about him.
"I don't... I don't care what that motherfucker is, Asher. Don't you think he should pay for what he did? Do you even care about him, or is he just another pet for you?" Asher's tone drops to a cold monotone, a shiver runs down my spine,
"Well, if you think so poorly of Star and how I've handled this, why don't you just go teach him a lesson yourself?" I finally get up from my seat and jostle the inside door to the mudroom. This isn't good, Asher knows better, doesn't he? Or does he just not care about the safety of his pets? Asher's just sending Star a blood bag at this point. I start pounding on the door at this point, throwing myself at it until Asher swings it open with a, "what's got you so dramatic, mortal?"
I run past him into the front garden, a few steps out the door just to see Marcus disappearing behind the privacy hedges at the edge of the garden. I feel a tight pressure around my chest, yanking me back inside as I scream Marcus' name. I'm desperate to stop him. Maybe I cared about him too much back then...
"Don't you dare, mortal," Asher's harsh whisper through gritted teeth echos through my head, but my body was still full of adrenaline, I'm on autopilot- fight or flight. Asher covers my mouth to muffle my screams... I didn't realize that I was screaming until he did that. I feel a sharp prick on my neck.
The world seems to slow down, my cries quiet and my limbs feel so heavy. I tilt my head back to see Asher's concerned scowl soften into a small frown,
"Better, mortal?" I nod absentmindedly before my eyes drift down to his firm hands pressed into my sternum... he knows what he's doing, "good, there's my good boy again- nice and calm, isn't he? This is much better, agree?" I mumble, very drowsy,
"Do you always carry that thing around?" the syringes of sedatives. He lets out a soft chuckle and presses his face into my hair,
"Yes. Because there are such strong notions in such a small pet- I know you simply cannot contain yourself, my dear." A wave of relief washes over me and I fall back into his chest, resting all of my insignificant weight onto him. I tilt my head back, smiling into his eyes affectionately,
"You make drugging someone sound so sweet." This, for whatever reason, prompted him to kiss the top of my head,
"You're welcome, darling. Now, let's get you inside."
