Two days, it had been two days since Lillian had received the news of her marriage to the emperor of a neighboring kingdom. She hadn't known her love life would unravel like this, marrying a bald fat old man at her young age, but things do not always go as one would hope. It should not have come as a surprise, after all she was her father's daughter. A cold, ruthless man who would take any chance at strengthening relations with other kingdoms.

The Kingdom of Minora had great manpower but lacked the technology to be feared, the emperor had previously attempted to make the land flourish but poverty among the people kept increasing at a fast rate. It almost led them to war, and if they did enter it, Minora would surely lose. Hence Lillian was a fair exchange to the king of a nation as great as the brilliant sun. A nation that would be their shield in times of need. There was nothing it lacked.

"Do you know what everyone is saying miss?" Fiona muttered as she brushed Lillian's hair. "They are saying you have been sold off to the kingdom of Fioreh. I ought to slap their mouths, how dare they utter such blasphemy about the princess?"

Fiona had been Lillian's maid ever since she was a child, taking care of everything she had ever needed. More than her own mother would.

"Do not worry yourself over such Trivial matters." Lillian spoke, her demeanor much like a well learned lady, there was not a single twitch of emotion. Fiona had seen the princess grow, and never had she seen a flicker of greed, no desperation for anything. Only living her life in a dull sense, like a doll trapped inside a dungeon that outwardly shines.

"Are you not worried?" Fiona huffed, her hand gripping the brush tighter. "The Emperor is told to be a conniving fiend who only cares for himself."

Lillian shifts her head to look at Fiona through the mirror in front if her. "He is to be my husband, you must not speak of him in such manner."

Not an ounce of emotion betrays her face, what a dismal life she had learned to live in this palace and it was only about to get worse if she married that man, Fiona thought to herself.

"When is the marriage?" The princess turns to ask. Fiona presses her lips together, not wanting to let it out that the princess's misery is to come much sooner than expected. "It's in a week I'm told."
