His eyes have been piercing me for two minutes now. "Mr. Stevens, I'm not sure what to say," I murmur quietly. Miss Morgan, "I would be interested in your opinion." "Sir, I don't really understand why you want this." "Do you really think that I should take on the role of your pseudo-girlfriend?" I ask, raising an eyebrow skeptically. "Miss Morgan, I'm not happy with you calling it that. Just think of it as an extra task." Wow, he really does seem incredibly arrogant. Why have I raved about him so often? I knew that in the café, but I still let myself get carried away. "Mr. Stevens, your suggestion is odd, yet flattering, but I think I'll turn it down." Good, Paige, don't let him unsettle you. "Miss Morgan, did I tell you that you can say no?" His tone becomes more and more determined. "Sir, I don't understand why you want my opinion on this when I can't say no anyway." "Miss Morgan, since when are you so quick-witted? Wow! This seems like a duel! As I said, I'm not pressuring you, it's just an extra task for you. Now let's look at the contract. My lawyer will... send it to you shortly.

I want you to read it carefully and if you have any questions we can work it out in my office." I am speechless. He is sitting here in front of me, like a "Wow, really good looking guy," and then this. Without another word, he stands up. "Aren't you coming with me?" he asks condescendingly. I stand up and follow him like I'm a child. I can hardly believe it. He is so... ah, I feel the anger boiling inside me. As I sit in his Porsche, I realize that he has just blackmailed me. "Miss Morgan, I'm taking you home. You have the rest of the day off." Wow, that's nice! I've been working my ass off for him for the last two weeks, and now I can leave early. "Sir, you don't even know where I live, and my car is still in the garage. I can't come to work tomorrow." "That's no problem. Walker will pick you up tomorrow." "Who's Walker?" I ask curiously. "My chauffeur," he replies. Ah, but that's not necessary. And as I said, you don't even know where I live. "East 34th St.," he blurts out. "How do you know where I live?" I ask, surprised. "Miss Morgan, it says that on your application. Don't you remember? Oh, Kate, this is really embarrassing!" I mutter quietly. On the drive from Manhattan to Brooklyn, I don't say a word to him; I just don't like it. He forces me to play his girlfriend, so I try to find refuge in my thoughts.

These thoughts are more pleasant than what he constantly inflicts on me. How could I ever rave about him like that when he always treated me badly? When we finally get to my place, I unbuckle my seatbelt and thank him for the cappuccino, even though I would have liked to spill it all over him. "Mr. Stevens, wasn't that a successful day?" With a sarcastic smile, I turn around and slam the car door. In the stairwell, I lean against the wall for a moment - Wow, what a conceited and condescending guy! How did I put up with him for two weeks? After a short break, I make my way upstairs. I unlock the door and notice that Kate has obviously tried to conjure up something edible. Before I go into the living room, I throw my bag on my bed while she calls from the kitchen: "You're back early!" I nod and answer: "Yes, I was allowed to go home early!" "You look a bit depressed though." "Yes, but everything is fine!" Oh Kate, please stop asking questions, it flashes through my mind. "Did you cook?" I ask her. "Yes, but I didn't really succeed." "How about we order something from the Asian restaurant?" Kate suggests. "Yes, that sounds like a good idea!" That evening, after I've showered, I enter my room and consider whether I should just ignore the email from his lawyer. But my curiosity is just too strong. I sit down on my bed and open it.
