Chapter Fifteen

A pleasant feeling of warmth surrounds my body. I slowly open my aching eyes and let the sun warm my gaze. Oh no, my head! It's throbbing - how many times have I suffered from headaches this week? I laboriously bend forward and look in the mirror on my desk. Oh dear, what do I look like? And how did I get home yesterday? Damn mess - concentrate, Paige, but everything is blurred in my memory, except that I danced with Kate.

I put my hand to my head and go into the bathroom, where the warm shower is already calling me. Standing under the water, I watch as the soothing water flows over my pale skin and rinses off all the make-up. I immediately feel better. After showering, I wrap myself in a towel and make my way to the kitchen to make myself a strong coffee this time. Completely relaxed, I sit down at the dining table and enjoy it, without rushing this time. Eventually I'm finished. I grab the contract, put it in my bag with my cell phone and quickly write a message to Kate.

I'm on my way to work. I made you some hangover soup, which you just have to heat up by this evening.

Paige

Just as I arrive at Marta's, I get a message from him on my cell phone. I immediately open the email.

Good morning, sir. I'm on my way to your office now. Is there anything else I can help you with? I would prefer to drive to your office myself on Tuesday evening.

I'd be glad if you didn't mean that. Walker told me that your vehicle is about to break down and is actually no longer safe for the road.

Mr. Stevens, this is disrespectful to Marta. She has been at my side for four years now and is still in a great mood. For this reason, I will take the wheel myself.

I must tell you, Miss Morgan, that I do not approve of you putting yourself in such a dangerous situation. Nevertheless, I look forward to seeing you at my place on Tuesday evening. The access code for the underground car park is 152354. I am expecting you.
