Darkness filled the air around us, the air staling with every breath. The smell of wet clothes and rotten food tickled my nose. My hands skimmed over the walls on either side of me, slime and something sloppy sticking to them. I felt Acteon at my side, his hand sitting on my shoulder and I knew that he held onto Tiffany. We hadn't planned to come here, but utter suspicion and stupidity had dragged us to the old abandoned school.
Entering the building had sent shivers down my spine, but we pressed on into darkness. Our eyes adjusted a little and we saw the dark red lockers, empty hallway and classroom doors that were slightly ajar. Each of the windows were covered in black ash, and unsure if we would be able to find our way out, I wrote the year 1925 on one's glass.
Tiffany told us that her parents had come here when they were younger and they said that this place was now haunted with the spirit of Hillary Templdom. She had apparently been the 'different' student. Rumours had spread around the school that she was born in the depths of Hell, always disappearing into the shadows when not speaking of the darkness. She cursed the whole student body for the wrongful and harsh treatment towards her when she heard yet another rumour about her. The school had burnt to a crisp, but still held its shape to remind those of the fateful day. I didn't believe in ghosts, but I felt Acteon's hand shaking.
We entered the room that read 'English', the last classroom in which Tiffany's parents had their last ever class at the school. Creaking as we entered, the door suddenly slammed shut with a bang. I went to open it again, but even with all the strength I had it wouldn't budge."Jammed," I said to the others.
Even though we were unable to see properly Tiffany's face was chalk white, her blue eyes standing out.
"We'll get out of here," Acteon spoke up, though he didn't sound so reassured.
A flash of white caught my eye. In one of the desks an almost holographic person sat. Her body extremely pale and a white uniform hung from her body.
"You won't escape," a staticky voice arose from the figure. Her head snapped up at us, a smile spreading across her face.
Fear ran through my body. We have to get out of here. All of us backed up to the door as our ghost rose from her chair. Acteon turned quickly and kicked the door down after three attempts and pushed us through.
"Run," Ghost Girl sang. "Run for your lives."
A scream escaped Tiffany's mouth as I dragged her down the way we had come. Horror and fear filled me to the top, until I couldn't control it anymore. I let out a scream of my own. I could hear Acteon's heavy footsteps behind us and the laughter of the crazed ghost as she sang. My eyes didn't bother to find our marker, they were eager for the exit. The door appeared in front of us, the darkness of night outside. Sprinting for our lives we burst through the doors, cool air blowing in our faces. I urged my legs to go further and we didn't stop until the school was nowhere in sight.
We stopped in a maze of cargo boxes near the dock and with exhaustion I slid against one and took deep breaths to steady my heart as it raced. Tiffany fell next to me exhausted from the scare.
"You two okay?" Acteon asked as he looked at us.
Barely having the strength we both nodded our heads with little emotion.
"She can never leave the school," Acteon stated. "That was the consequence of the curse she made.""Agree...to never...talk about that again," I made out, panting, as my lungs begged for air.
Nodding we never talked of the experience, but we will be forever scarred even long after we have left this world.
