A knock on the door of my dorm brings my attention away from the book in my hand. It must be the new girls. I get up as Avery, Ayesha and Alexis giggle excitedly. Classes finished around twenty minutes ago and all they've been able to talk about is the new students. I'm also excited but I'd rather not think about it too much or else my mind will wander to other things i'd rather not think about.
I open the door and see a girl with wavy red hair and freckles dusted across her face smiling at me, next to her a shorter, younger looking girl with two afro buns on the side of her head, big brown eyes and a nervous smile. I smile back at them and welcome them inside.
"Hi! Come in, come in." I say as they walk through with their bags. The other girls smile and say their Hello's as they enter. They drop their bags at the only empty bunk in the room before turning to face us again. I speak up, "It's so nice to meet you! I'm Astrid. This is Avery, Alexis and Ayesha." I say pointing to them as I say their names. Each of them waving and grinning awkwardly in turn.
The ginger girl speaks now "I'm Siren and this is Isis." Isis grins at us. "It's so lovely to have you guys as roomies you all seem so sweet!" she says kindly.
"Do you need help unpacking?" Ayesha asks.
"No that's okay, we don't have a lot to unpack anyway" Siren replies.
They both look around dorm room, seemingly entranced by it and then Isis gasps as she see's my cat - Snowflake - curled up on my bed.
"Oh my Goodness, she's adorable! Mind if I pet her?" she asks excitedly. "Of course, feel free." I reply, smiling at the joy spread across her face, she goes to pet the black cat, running her hand through Snowflakes soft fur.
"What's her name?" she asks softly. I laugh a little "Snowflake." I tell her and she and Siren laugh too.

After Isis and Siren finished unpacking we filled them in on everything about the school and it turns out they are in a few of my lessons. We all talk for a while until it's time for dinner when we all head down to the diner together. We ask if they want to sit with us but they said they are going to catch up with the other guys they came here with.
"I love them." Alexis chirps happily.
"Ugh me too they're so sweet." Avery chimes in. I nod and take small bites of my sandwich.
"I wonder why they came here right in the middle of the school year." I say my thoughts out loud "usually new arrivals start at the beginning with everyone else."
They think for a moment before Ayesha says "Maybe they had no choice." we all shrug and continue eating, my thoughts clouding my mind for the rest of dinner.
