The team had gathered in the meeting room, they were in Australia for the series. The series was long with different formats so they were gonna be almost 4 months in Australia.
Now due to the pandemic they were stuck in Australia. They could not go back and not even play because the situation was similar all over the world.
Now they had to stay in quarantine for one month to say the least. It could be increased to another month if the situation does not get stabilise.
Which also meant they had to stay for 6 months in Australia because the series was postponed but it was gonna happen for sure.
Everyone was just calling their families how they will be staying here. Some were already here with their wives and girlfriends.
"So there are cottages to stay which will at a distance from one another, 2 people in one cottage. There is not much connectivity, so just use cottage phones. It will take time to arrange the Aus cards and everything", the manager informed.
"There will be no changes in the room or roommates arrangements so don't come to me for complains", the captain MSD informed and it was specially directed at Virat who in return just stayed silent.
"Every thing is arranged in the cottages, you have to make food for yourselves as we have to stay safe. Once the situation stabilises, we can arrange meals but for now it is upto you, you have to prepare it yourselves", Manager added to list of instructions.
"So the list is like this", the Manager listed out the names and the last one is, "Virat and Rohit", he said.
Everyone in the team were shocked including those two because in the team one person who Rohit was not friends with was Virat. Rohit being the goofy person groaned in irritation because Virat was really silent all the time, he didn't know how he was gonna survive.
"If I die of boredom, it's on you Bhai", Rohit said to Mahi bhai who just shook his head the complain.
There was no expression on Virat's face, he was just listening to everything including what Rohit said.
"How the hell he is so expression less or I should say stone faced", asked Rohit as he was talking to Mahi bhai, they were waiting for the keys to be given by the staff.
"I have no idea myself Ro, he does not open up with anyone. Its been years me and Yuvi everyone tried but ya I saw him smile once with Rahul bhai and Zak, he had opened up with them but once they retired he went into his shell once again", explained Mahi.
"How will I stay with him?", Rohit whined again but Mahi just patted his back in support.
Virat took the keys and walked towards his own cottage which he was gonna share with Rohit, he didn't have any problem but he was nervous about sharing space with someone else.
He entered and noticed there was a small living room with a fireplace, kitchen attached and one bedroom, it was a small space.
Atleast it had some garden space for fresh air, they could walk in forest area too, he could not see other cottages, their cottage for the last one and it was far away.
Soon Rohit reached too only to see Virat looking around.
"As it is only one bedroom, you take it and I will sleep in living room. I will just need space to keep the luggage, that would be fine with you right?", asked Virat and Rohit just nodded at that.
"We can share the bedroom, it's enough for two people", Rohit tried to convince him but Virat didn't say anything on that.
Virat moved in the bedroom and arranged his clothes in one cupboard. He got freshened up and moved to kitchen. He noticed Rohit looking around outside.
Rohit came inside to get freshened up, he saw Virat in the kitchen, "you know how to cook?", he asked.
"yes, do u want anything specific? I am preparing dal chawal", Virat asked as he had habit of eating dal rice after travelling, it was his comfort food. Travelling made him tired so this would make him feel at home which he always searched for. As he never actually had a home.
"No it sounds perfect, I will come in a bit", Rohit said and Virat got to his work.
Virat was taking out the plates when Rohit came there, "let me do that atleast", he said to which Virat moved back and kept the plates on the counter instead of giving it in Rohit's hands which made Rohit feel out of the place.
They sat on the chairs which were attached to another counter having their dinner silently.
"Can I help you in the dishes?", Rohit asked nervously, he saw Virat was doing it alone as he completed his dinner early while Rohit was a slow eater.
"It's fine", Virat said continuing his work.
Rohit sighed at another failed attempt to initiate or even have a conversation. How was he gonna live with him for 2 months?
After sometime once Virat was done with the dishes he saw the living room empty, he knocked the bedroom door, "it's open", he heard Rohit.
He noticed Rohit arranging his stuff in the cupboard. He took the pillow and went outside. Virat opened the window little bit so that air would pass even it was very cold he needed that.
After an hour Rohit was done, he noticed there were two blankets on the bed, "didn't he take the blanket?", Rohit thought and took the blanket outside, he saw him sleeping-- he was not sleeping exactly so Rohit just kept it near his legs which caused Virat to startle and he immediately got up pulling his knees to the chest.
"Sorry, didn't mean to startle you, it is cold so the blanket", Rohit said seeing how Virat had reacted.
He went to close the window as it was very cold, "no no don't close it", he heard Virat to which he kept it open.
"it's really cold", Rohit said concerned about him, "no it's fine, just don't close it", said Virat again.
"Okay, Good night", Rohit said turning off the lights and went in the room.
Rohit noticed that the lights were turned on again of the living room, not the big ones but a small light was there. After sometime he checked, Virat was curled up on the couch snuggled up in the blanket, he was asleep.
Rohit lay on his bed curious about Virat's actions and everything he observed. He just dozed off thinking about him.
