Jinx’s eyes fluttered open, the soft morning light streaming through the windows, casting a warm glow over the room. She blinked a few times, the haziness of sleep still clinging to her, but then it hit her—the warmth of the sheets around her, the unfamiliar softness of the pillow beneath her head.

Her heart jolted.

This wasn’t her hideout. This wasn’t even the chaos of the streets she was used to. Her eyes darted around the room—clean, quiet, almost too peaceful. And then her gaze fell to her body, her tangled blue hair splayed across the pillow like a mess of wild waves. Her hand instinctively reached up, brushing through the strands, only to feel the soft, unfamiliar fabric of the sheets against her skin.

Wait.

Her cheeks flushed as she realized—her clothes were on the floor.

A sharp intake of breath made her freeze in place. What did we do?

Her heart thudded in her chest as a mixture of panic and embarrassment washed over her. She couldn’t remember much—just flashes, broken pieces of last night. There were moments she’d rather forget. Her and Ekko. Close. Too close. The heat between them. The intensity. The way he touched her. The way she touched him. The kiss.

Her fingers clutched at the sheets, trying to pull them higher over her body, desperate to cover herself, to hide away from the vulnerability she felt. The room spun around her as she slowly sat up, her head heavy with both confusion and the weight of the night.

Did anyone hear? Did anyone see? Her eyes scanned the room in a panic, but thankfully, it was empty. Still, the thought made her heart race faster. She’d never been the kind of person who cared much for other people’s opinions, but something about this—about Ekko—made her care.

And suddenly, the door to the room creaked open. Jinx jumped, her heart leaping to her throat. She yanked the sheets higher, praying she was hidden enough. But when she saw who it was, she felt a wave of relief.

Ekko.

He stepped into the room, a soft smirk playing on his lips, his eyes lighting up when they landed on her. But his gaze softened when he noticed how she was trying to hide herself under the sheets.

“Morning, Sleeping Beauty,” Ekko said with a teasing grin, but there was something else in his voice. Something softer. Gentler. His eyes softened in a way Jinx had never seen before.

Jinx could barely meet his eyes. She was still trying to figure out where she stood, where they stood. “W-what happened?” she asked, her voice cracking slightly. “I… I don’t remember much.”

Jinx swallowed hard, relieved but still feeling a pang of anxiety at the thought of what she might have done. She had never been good at letting her guard down, and whatever had happened between them last night was… too close for comfort.

“Did… did we…?” Her voice trailed off, too embarrassed to finish the question, but Ekko’s eyes softened even more, and he straightened up slightly.

“Nothing you didn’t want to,” he answered simply, the warmth in his voice making Jinx’s stomach twist in a way she couldn’t explain.
