I was sat on the edge of the bath tub as jody frantically paced around infront of me, running her fingers through her hair. I don't think she had ever felt so stressed before, and I was useless.

"Calm down."

"Saying calm down doesn't help me to calm down. It just makes me frustrated at your stupid suggestions and therefore less calm!" She snapped

I flinched back and her fact instantly softened, a few tears escaping her eyes which she quickly wiped away with the back of her hand

"I'm sorry. I...I shouldn't take this out of you. It isn't fair. You're doing a good thing and I'm glad you're here with me," jody apologised, giving my hand a squeeze. I bought it up to my lips and kissed it. Then, the timer went off.

Next to the sink sat a pregnancy test, and the two minutes they had to wait had gone by incredibly slow. Now that the time had gone off, neither of them wanted to look

"I can't," jody whispered, looking into my eyes. It was as if all my fear had melted away, seeing her so upset. All I cared about was holding and protecting her for the rest of my life.

I lifted my hand I stroked her cheek. "You can. Because you're not alone, I promise. Do you want me to check?"

Her lip quivered and she nodded her head slowly. I let go of her hand and she instantly began tugging on her sleeve nervously.

I walked towards the sink and picked up the pregnancy test.

"Jody-"

"Oh god. I'm pregnant aren't I? I have his baby in me and it's gonna grow up to be a monster just like my daddy. I'll never get him away from me, even when we leave this shithole. A piece of him will always follow me around and I...i-"

"Jody! Hey, you're alright. You're not pregnant. Okay? The test is negative."

A sob left her lips and she instantly hugged me, crying in my arms. Her legs gave way and I sank to the floor with her, holding her close. My fingers ran through her hair as I rested my cheek on the top of her head. "Sshh, everything will be okay. I thought you'd be happy?"

"So did I. I just...why am I not pregnant?"

"Did you want to be pregnant?"

She sat up and crossed her legs, using her sleeve to wipe her tears. "Of course not. Especially not with his baby. But, why am I not? It doesn't make sense. The things he does to me...I...I should be pregnant."

I grabbed hold of her hand and smiled at her. "You aren't. You don't need to worry about anything because now, you can move on. I'm going to help you and he isn't gonna lay a finger on you. Why are you crying?"

There was a brief silence as jody swallowed the lump in the back of her throat. "What if I can't have children?" Her voice broke and she buried her head in her hands as my face dropped. I hadn't even thought about that. It hadn't crossed my mind until just now.

"Maybe you weren't pregnant because of your dad. Maybe it's nothing to do with you."

"Really? You think there's something wrong with my dad? I have thirteen brothers and sisters. His sperm is sponsored by Satan, okay? He can't be the issue so it has to be me."

"We'll make an appointment at the doctors. Don't worry about the cost, I'll handle that. Just find out. I think it'll put your mind at ease. It might just be the DNA that's the issue, with you two being related and all."

She nodded her head and pecked my lips. "Thank you, but I can't ask you to do that. Our number one priority has to be earning money to get our own place."

"I don't mind, jody. It'll play on your mind, I know it will."

"But this is more important to me. If we find out I can't or can have kids, it doesn't change anything because neither of us are ready anyway. But, if we move out into our own place, then so many issues will be over."

"Alright. But once we have our own place, I'm making sure that you are happy 100%, no matter the cost."

Before jody could reply, merle ran into the bathroom, not even caring that we were both crying on the floor

"Get out!" I yelled

"My bladder waits for no man!" He unzipped his jeans and began pissing right behind me as me and jody ran out of the bathroom, cursing him

We went into the kitchen and began laughing through out tears, drying our eyes. "Do you want a drink?"

"That'd be nice."

"We've got beer, or....nope that's it. That's all the options," I told her, opening the fridge and looking through the cupboards

"Beer it is, then. Not gonna complain." I handed jody the Beer bottle and she sat on the kitchen worktop, with me inbetween her legs.

"I love you, jody."

"I love you, daryl."

"And I love Beer but I don't feel the need to say it every five minutes," merle said, coming up behind me and getting his own beer.

We rolled our eyes and I turned to face him, still inbetween jodys legs

"You're just jealous," I told him

He scoffed. "You kidding, baby brother? I think it's great that jodys practically my sister in law. You've done well. But I sure as hell ain't jealous. I can sleep with any woman I want without a care in the world. You are tied down."

Jody began to giggle. "Sure, any woman."

Merle held his arms out as if presenting his own body. "Hey, you think this body has any trouble with the ladies?"

"Your body ain't the issue. It's your mouth."

I rolled my eyes at my girlfriend and brother and began to walk away

Jody asked, "where you going?"

"I'm gonna go get a few pizzas for dinner. Don't kill eachother whilst I'm gone."

"I'll come with ya. You alright by yourself, or you coming?" Merle asked jody

She thought about it for a moment before deciding to stay back and take a nap before dinner.

In the truck, me and merle were driving silently until he decided to point out, "I saw the pregnancy test in the bathroom."

"Did you-"

"I got rid of it, don't worry. Dad doesn't have to know. So...is she?"

Trust merle to not know what positive and negative means

I shook my head. "No. But now she's worried that she's infertile. I said I'd pay for her to have some tests."

"They're expensive baby brother. Sure you want to be doing that?"

"Not yet. When we have a house. And I know they're expensive but it'll play on her mind. And truthfully, it's playing on mine aswell."

"Oh yeah? See yourself becoming a daddy, hey baby brother?"

I shrugged my shoulders. "I don't know. I'm not sure I'd be a good one. But I always saw jody as being a mom. She'd be a great mom and I want to be by her side watching it all. I'm just glad the test was negative. I'm not sure jody would have been able to handle carrying Freddie baby."

"He's a sick bastard."

"Yeah, he is. But he isn't gonna hurt her anymore. I told her, I promised, she's safe."

Merle didn't seem to like that. "That's one hell of a promise."

"It's the truth."
