I heard voices even before I opened my eyes. The voices were of my family’s and I could easily different them apart. And one of the voice belonged to my mother.
“I went to the other room and I didn’t find her in her bed, and when I saw that it was barely slept in, I got worried and searched the whole house. And then I realize that there would only be one other place she would be in if she couldn’t sleep and that would be in your room.” My mother said.
She was stroking my head and creasing my cheeks. If only she knew I was awake, she wouldn’t do it. I didn’t like it when people act girly on me. I mean yes I’m a girl but I grew up with four boys in the family, and they didn’t give me a chance to act girly. Always including me in the things they did, they would always make sure I mastered the art of playing ball.
“She came in last night saying she had nightmares of what happened just yesterday and that she was afraid that Dad was going to hate her for it.” Kishern said and I could feel the bed sink at my feet; he was sitting down.
“It was kinda hard for us to get the topic out of her head and convince her to sleep, but our dear Nesh had the worlds’ awesome idea of tickling her and everyone knows that she cant resist tickling and she finally gave in to sleep. “ Pavan added in with a little sarcastic tone at the ‘world’s awesome idea’.
“Hey, at least I got her to sleep. And I’m proud of that!” Nesh defended.
I was waiting for someone to bring up the topic of father and the case, but no one did. I don’t think I can act like I’m sleeping any longer so they better talk about it soon.
“Mom, is it okay if you could ask on of the helpers to bring up breakfast to our rooms?” Nesh asked.
“Ok son, I will ask someone to bring the breakfast up.” Mother answered.
And just then there was a knock on the door and Kishern got up from the bed to open the door. I don’t know who was at the door but all I knew that as soon as it opened, it was closed.
“I’m afraid breakfast in this room will have to be done another day. Cause Dad wants us to be at the dinning room in 15 minutes.” Kishern said.
“Oh my, in that case, I better go and see what your father needs than. And be sure that she’s up and in the room in 15 minutes.” My mother said as she left the room.
The room was silent and no one made a sound till my mother was gone. I supposed the Kishern was still standing at the door cause I heard the click on the lock.
“Babysis, I think you can cut the act now. Mom’s gone and you don’t have to act sleeping. “
I opened my eyes but still lay on the bed without moving the sheets around. I knew my brother would have found out about me faking sleep when my mother was in the room, because that very trick was taught fro the master himself, Kishern. He was always using this trick with mother when he didn’t want to school and she would always think that he was too tired and let him sleep in.
Our parents were rather fine with us skipping school, cause we were fairly straight ‘A’ scorers for our tests and all of this was because of mother homeschooling us for the first few years of our lives.
“Daddy’s gonna hate me.” I said and closed my eyes, willing my tears not to expose it selves. But I couldn’t help but let a traitor tear fall out of my eyes, sliding down the sides of my face. I felt the bed sink beside me and I knew someone was sitting beside me.
“He’s not going to hate you. Just put a smile on your face and come for breakfast.” Pavan said as he wiped the tear from my eye and got up from the bed.
