Shou Quan quietly nodded along. She had been surprised but nothing more. Knowing the king slightly better than the others, she didn't have the slightest doubt about whether or not he should be counted as a dragon or a demon. She even felt that his personality was somewhat similar to hers. At the very least, he loved the crown prince of the Nine Heavens just as much as she loved Yu Gan and wanted to spoil him in the same way she did with her wife. That seemed pretty dragon-like to her.
She wasn't the type to think about such possible conspiracies. To her, the situation was fairly simple: The ones they were defending themselves against were the people from the demon realm. If those became active, it was time to move troops, command, and make sure that what was theirs would remain theirs by fighting with everything they had. After the battle, things would return to normal.
Even if there were a few half-bloods on their side who shared blood with the demons, she didn't think there was an issue with that. They were living in the dragon realm, weren't they? In her eyes, that meant they had to be dragons. Which demon would want to live here, after all? That would simply be putting themselves in harm's way. After all, one could imagine how the dragons would react if some lone demon was trying to make trouble on their ground.
So, in short: Their king might be a half-blood but he had lived in the dragon realm for so long and hadn't caused issues. Plus, he showed a lot of the features only the dragons displayed. Surely, he fell much more on the dragon side than the demon side of his blood. So this really wasn't a big deal.
On the other side, Chang Bo also heaved a sigh of relief. While he wasn't as familiar with Qiu Ling and his advisers as Shou Quan due to the fact that he wasn't from the capital city, he still felt that he had a rough grasp of what type of person their king was. After all, it only took a few encounters to gain a preliminary understanding. And, well, the person he thought him to be wasn't one who would bring harm to the dragon realm.
Earlier, he had mostly felt down because he thought he hadn't been informed due to the area he was overseeing. Clearly, that wasn't the case though. None of the generals had known. Even Shou Quan had seemed somewhat surprised if he thought back to it now. So really, there was no issue for him to agonize over. He wasn't left out due to being from the southeast. That had only been his fear talking.
Of course, this understanding had unlocked a new fear: What if the others weren't able to come to terms with this as simply as he had? With how Min Jun had acted outside, that seemed to be a possibility.
Now, listening to the previous king talk about his impression of their king and asking such pointed questions, he felt a lot more secure again. Surely, the others wouldn't simply ignore what he was saying. That was the previous king, after all! And those questions only allowed for one answer: Of course, their king wasn't out to inflict chaos upon the dragon realm again. It just didn't make any sense no matter how you looked at it.
Well, that should be the end of this pointless discussion. Rather than that ... Chang Bo cleared his throat to get Jinde's attention. As a result, everyone turned to look at him, making his face heat up. "Uh ... I just wanted to ask what the story behind this actually is. I mean, I trust our king. No matter his blood, I'm sure he only wants what's best for the dragon realm. I'm just really surprised, that's all." And his wife would definitely want to know when he went back outside. Especially after she was looking after their children alone with so many people around. He'd better have an interesting story to tell!
Shou Quan opposite nodded more vehemently as well when that question was brought up. Right! She had forgotten to think about this. Wasn't his father Chun Yin? The son of General Lin Cai? Certainly, there shouldn't be any demon blood mixed in there! So where did this come from?
Jia Su looked from one person to the other and sighed faintly. These two looked as if they were only interested in some gossip. Why had a serious discussion turned into this? Thank Heaven the generals seldom came together all at once ...
The other generals also would have liked to keep things a little more solemn considering the possible consequences this discussion could have. At the same time, quite a few had the same question: Just where did this demon blood come from? Why had they never heard about it before this? There hadn't even been a rumor!
Fang Hua, one of the generals from the border to the demon realm furrowed her brows. "I do think that Chang Bo speaks for all of us when he says that this came as a surprise. I get that His Majesty may not have wanted anyone to know. This is a ... delicate topic, after all, as just us coming together for this proves. Still, someone should have known. How come there weren't even any whispers about this? Usually, wouldn't there be rumors about such a big thing? If the demons knew, they definitely would have used that against us, wouldn't they?"
Jinde lowered his gaze to hide the pain that squeezed his heart when he was reminded of this. "Well, in this specific case, circumstances were favorable to Qiu Ling. The demons aren't any more welcoming to half-bloods than our people were for a long time and the previous demon king Jin Ling ... was part dragon as well. It's just that contrary to Qiu Ling, he fell more on the other side. Using Qiu Ling's mixed blood against him might have backfired so even though he indeed knew, he never made that knowledge known." And to a certain degree, maybe Jin Ling had cared about his opinion and thus hadn't dared to touch Qiu Ling's deepest hidden secret.
