I knocked on the door. There was no answer, though this was definatly the right door. My father, Mr Reynholm said he saw great things for me in the Department. However, like all things, I had to start somewhere. So he sent me down to the IT Department. I'd heard great things about this department, so I had high expectations and not answering the door wasn't quite meeting those expectations. "H-Hello?" I pressed my ear against the door and listened for the response. "I-Its Miss Reynholm, I'm new to the Department..." I was quite surprised at the stutter in my voice.
At this point, I had to quickly move my head from the cold metal of the door, as I felt it opening. To my surprise, it was opened by a lady. Quite a beautiful lady, she her ginger hair pulled back neatly too. "Oh hello, sorry" she began apologising, though I didn't feel annoyed anymore. "I forgot you were coming today..." She welcomed me in. The Department was quite big, much bigger than I expected. There were too desks, covered in various trinkets. I could also see a small fridge, a small kitchen and a Red Door at the back.
She had disappeared into a room to my left, I presumed it was her office. She then emerged again, this time with a clipboard and a piece of paper attached to it. "Now let's see..." She looked down the paper and tapped it. "Amulet?" She looked up at me. I nodded and smiled "that's me" she returned the smile before repeating my name once more. "Amulet...lovely name" I blushed a little. My name is quite unusual, I admit. "Thank you" She put the clipboard down and held out her hand. "Jen Barber; Relationship Manager" I shook her hand. I took another look at the department. "So," I turned back to Jen "Is it just us in the Department?" She laughed at this, perhaps a little nervously but I couldn't really tell. "Oh, I wish...But No, there's two other guys...actually, three other guys..." I was just a little disappointed at this. I was rather looking forward to just working with Jen, she seemed lovely. "Oh, right" I sighed a little "When can I meet them?" Jen looked around, as if looking for the three guys. "Oh they should be here, after all there's an attractive young lady in the Department." I couldn't help blush a little at her complement. "And listen, Amulet" she got my attention. "I'm really happy that a lady is going to be in our department. And if you ever need to talk to me, you know where I'll be." She gestured to the room I thought was her office, I must have been correct. "I'll leave you to it, make yourself at home..." She smiled once more, then returned to her office and shut the door, I realised I was alone.
I wandered around the room for a while. Analysing the toys and electronics on the two desks. Picking some of them up or perhaps just touching them. Some were polished and well-kept, whereas others had a thin layer of dust settling on top. I then made my way to the Red Door at the back of the Department. I don't know why but something about it was intreaging. I ran one finger down the door. It was cold but not a bit of dust was found. There was some sort of Danger sign but I ignored it. I turned around and looked back. 'Well' I thought to myself "Jen has her office...and these desks look like people own them..." I turned back to the red door. 'so I'm guessing this is where I am..." It was surprising to me that the handle was not as cold as the door, nowhere near. Although I was excited to see my 'office' I was still cautious and opened the door slowley. The handle was angular and poked my hand a little.
The door opened quickly and all at once. To my disappointment, I couldn't see a thing, apart from a few small flashing lights. I widened my eyes and searched around for a light switch. However, somehow, light filled the room suddenly...but I hadnt turned them on. I quickly looked around to see who'd done it, though my eyes were adjusting and I couldn't see very well at all. I heard tiptoeing behind me, light footsteps. I was about to turn around and see who it was but something stopped me. I felt someone place their hands gently on my shoulders. I shivered then rapidly turned around. The man I saw behind me was terrifying! He had pale facial makeup but dark lips and even eyeliner. His clothes were Victorian-style and most certainly somewhat Gothic. His hair was jet black and straight, resting on his shoulders. He also had a milky lens in one eye. I was about to scream and wack him with something but he placed one finger on my lips and shushed me.
"Please...don't scream..." His voice was soft. I relaxed a little and he removed his finger from my lips. He then, using both arms, brought me over to a chair and sat me down on it. Although he practically pulled me over, his grip was gentle and I didn't feel nervous anymore. He then let go of me and sat on a chair opposite me. I hesitated a little before speaking to him. "I-...I am so sorry...I didn't know y-you were d-down here..." I started apologising. A few strands of my hair fell out of place. My hair was short, only just reached the bottom of my neck. I scraped it back behind my ear, then looked back up at him. I realised he was staring at me...but not in a menacing way. He just looked a little intreaged and his big blue eyes were focused on me. I wasn't quite sure why though."...Sorry was it something I did?" I asked, a little confused. He didn't respond at all. He remained silent and continued staring at me. I cleared my throght, awkwardly. "Amulet" I found myself smiling as I said. "Miss Amulet Reynholm...and you are?"
Suddenly, he stood up and slowly approached me but this time I wasn't at all scared. He then took one of my hands and lifted it a little before speaking "..Richmond...Felicity...Avenal..."
He kissed my hand when he'd finished. Again, I couldn't help blushing and I even got mini butterflies in my stomach. I smiled and surprisingly, he smiled back. I had to wait a moment before responding. Somehow, he'd managed to swoon me already. "N-Nice to meet you, Mr Avenal..." I stuttered. "Oh its Richmond, M-Miss Amulet..." He smiled again. It was the strangest feeling but...I felt happy...and safe...and excited all at the same time...I don't know why but...somehow, Richmond made me happy, like no-one else could.
