NOTE:ZAHRA Sultana's besties name has been changed to Farha .Chapter 5: Sultan's POV
"I sincerely hope we glean some valuable insights from the lecturer's forthcoming remarks," Sabir said as we sat in the classroom, eagerly awaiting the lecturer's arrival.
"Yeah, I'm the type of individual who arrives at school an hour or more before my lecture, not because I have an ardent passion for academics – no, that's not on my list of priorities. I simply prefer doing things ahead of schedule, and I also don't want to incur the wrath of any lecturer. It's the other way around; it's more about the lecturer being on the receiving end of my displeasure, and I must confess, I don't take kindly to that either," I replied.
"I'm just hoping he'll suggest a topic, and then we're good to go," I said. "It's not a big deal; we'll just conduct some research and put our skills into practice. At least now we'll have the opportunity to apply what we've learned, rather than just sitting passively and being fed theories."
"Yeah, that's exactly what I'm thinking, Mallam Engineer," Sabir said with a grin.
"Kai bar Mallamin nan barni a dalibi na," (Hey, cut that teacher, leave me as a student) I joked, and we both chuckled.
"Kai wai kayi noticing tun da muka shugo Farouq ko 'A' bece ba kuwa?" (Guy, have you noticed since we got in that Farouq didn't say a word?) I asked.
"Farouq!, Kaii Farouq!" I called his name, but he didn't respond. I tapped him on the shoulder. "Farouq!" I yelled.
"Na... na na'am mai ya faru" (wh..what is going on), he said, startled.
"Wai yane?" (How far?), Sabir and I asked in unison.
"Guys, it's nothing," Farouq said, massaging his temples.
"You can't say it's nothing; something is obviously bothering you, so please, Alhaji, cut to the chase," I said.
"Maybe she's the one disturbing our man's brain," Sabir joked.
Just then, the lecturer walked into the classroom.
"Good morning, class," Mr. Garba said.
"Maybe after the class," Farouq said, and we all nodded.
"Morning, Sir," the whole class chorused.
"So, I don't have much to discuss, but first, let's start with a test," the lecturer began.....
*******
"So, Sabir, I think since he said we should go ahead and bring something we want to do for the project, it will be more intriguing," I said. "All we have to do is come up with something, let him know, and we get to work. What's your take on this?"
We had just finished our lectures for about two hours now, and we also went to our supervisor, who told us to come up with something. If he's okay with it, we get to start. You know, as a Mechanical Engineering student, your project won't be just based on theory; we have to create or invent something.
"Dude, wallahi, I kind of prefer him giving us an idea or something because my mind is totally blank right now," Sabir said, taking a spoonful of fried rice to his mouth.
"Hmmm, anyhow, we must come up with something, Insha'Allah," I said.
"Yeah, Insha'Allah," he replied.
"Kaii karku cinye abincin fah (Hey, don't finish the food, woo)!" Farouq exclaimed, approaching us from the doorway. Yeah, he had just returned from the restroom.
"Aii, dole kace kar'a cinye abinci tunda ka zubar da na cikin ka (You'll say we shouldn't finish food since you let out what is left in your stomach already)?" Sabir quipped, and we burst out laughing. Farouq rolled his eyes at us and dug into his food.
