a/n: kinda early update as an apology for the hiatus? :)
beomgyu stepped outside, the chill of the night air biting against his skin from the open window in the corridor, but he barely felt it.
his thoughts were making him go crazy, taehyun's voice still echoing in his ears, every word replaying on a loop that refused to stop. he shoved his hands deeper into his pockets, his pace quickening as he tried to outrun the weight in his chest.
but it was no use. the past came crashing down on him, unrelenting.
he hadn't thought about yoonmi in these 2 months with taehyun. at least, not consciously. but now, the memories came flooding back, sharp and vivid, as if he were right back in that moment. the look in her eyes when she told him the truth. the way her lips trembled, forming words he wished he could unhear.
"beomgyu, i didn't mean for it to happen," she had said, her voice thick with tears. "it was a mistake, i swear-"
"a mistake?" he had interrupted, his voice shaking with disbelief and anger. "you're telling me you accidentally cheated on me? is that what you're saying?"
yoonmi had flinched, her face crumpling under the weight of his words, but beomgyu hadn't cared. all he could feel was the betrayal, the deep, gnawing ache that consumed him whole. they had spent years together. years he thought meant something. and in one moment, she had ripped it all apart.
he remembered storming out of her apartment that night, much like he had just done with taehyun. the door slamming behind him had been a final, bitter conclusion to the end of something he thought would last forever.
and now, with taehyun's confession, all of those buried feelings were clawing their way back to the surface. he knew taehyun wasn't like her. he had infact let beomgyu drench his shirt with tears on the night he had met yoonmi again.
then why?
his steps slowed as he reached the corner of the floor, his chest heaving with the effort to keep his breathing steady. "fuck no. not again," he muttered under his breath, his hands curling into fists. he couldn't go through this again. couldn't risk losing another important person in his life to the chaos that came with feelings he didn't know how to handle.
how did taehyun even become so important to him suddenly? why was losing taehyun scaring him so bad?
he wasn't attached to the boy.
but then, taehyun's face flashed in his mind. the way his voice trembled, the tears shining in his eyes, the raw vulnerability in his words. it wasn't the same as yoonmi.
taehyun wasn't the same. and yet, beomgyu couldn't stop the fear creeping in, couldn't stop himself from questioning if he could solve this without destroying everything in the process.
he leaned against a railing, his head falling back as he stared up at the dark sky, trying to make sense of the storm inside him.
"what am i supposed to do?" he whispered, his voice swallowed by the cold wind. but the night offered no answers, leaving him alone with the memories of a broken past and the fragile, terrifying possibility of something new.
he knew taehyun wouldn't do the same. but the 'what if' scared him.
the memory of yoonmi's betrayal still clung to beomgyu, even after all this time. as much as he tried to push it away, it always returned at the worst moments, like tonight.
beomgyu had barely slept on the night of their breakup. his mind went through every moment they'd shared, trying to understand where things had gone wrong. despite the anger and heartbreak, a small, foolish part of him still wanted to believe her. wanted to believe they could fix things.
